For 2009, the Daytona 675 is reviewed and corrected, the Street Triple is available in an R version and the Bonneville blows its 50 candles … But Triumph is also aiming further and unveils a new 1600cc cruiser which will land in more than one year !

In 2008, Triumph overhauled its bestseller the Speed Triple, released an SE (-XY) finish for the Daytona 675 and upgraded its "Cruisers" and "Modern Classics" to injection (read)…

For next year, the Hinckley firm has decided to review – but not to revolutionize, it is still too early – its Supersport and to launch a version of its Street Triple a little more radical. On the 1050cc side, nothing new, however, among the "Modern Classics" we are celebrating the 50 years of the Bonneville with great fanfare..

Finally, "because the American dealers were impatient", explains Eric Pecoraro, Marketing Director at Triumph France, the English brand announces its arrival in a new market thanks to a brand new 1600cc Cruiser: the Thunderbird !

The updated Daytona

Although when it came out the Daytona 675 wanted to be "incomparable"and eager to evolve in a different court than the Japanese Supersport (read our), the English must take the fold: before the overhaul after four years, the Dayto ‘undergoes a reshuffle after two…

For the Triumph R&D department, this is an evolution supported by "the experience gained from the 2008 Supersport World Championship". Thus, the Triple now accepts to take 450 more laps while"the hydraulic timing chain tensioner and the upper ratio on the first gear jump directly from the competitor kit to the standard bike", specifies the manufacturer.

Likewise, electronic injection is recalibrated and the cylinder head, valves and combustion chambers are modified. So that in the end, the Daytona 675 broke – "on a real bench", insists to Site Éric Pecoraro – at 13,950 rpm and delivers 128 horsepower in the free world, 3 more than the 2008 model."And without loss of torque at mid-range", reassures us the French manager…

On the weight side, the pot loses 2 kg and the new magnesium camshaft contributes to the general decrease in weight of 3 kg, ie a dry weight of 162 kg. Rightly, Triumph adds that the new, lighter rims, "help the motorcycle to change direction more easily"and wear the latest Pirelli SuperCorsa SP.

The riders will be delighted to learn that the new fork and the new shock absorber benefit from a differentiation between slow and fast compression settings, that the new Nissin monoblock calipers "further improve braking"and that"quickschifter plug and play"- yeah okay," a quick shifting system ready to use "-, will be available in the list of original accessories.

Aesthetically, the Daytona 675 also evolves: the "cockpit", the optics and the screen are redesigned. The finer indicators and the addition of a grille on the front air intake finish to assert the look of the Englishwoman which remains clean..

Scheduled for early December 2008, the British Superport will only be available in two very classic colors: a "Jet" black and a "Tornado" red, the "Neon" blue disappearing from the catalog. Finally, the only bad news, the price of the Daytona 675 is increasing: it now reaches € 10,990. It remains in the current range of Supersport…

The Street Triple rises in rank

The Street Triple victim of its success

The Street Triple is a victim of its success: "Hinckley plant cannot produce enough crankcases and camshafts to meet demand", admits Eric Pecoraro, marketing director at Triumph France! Today in France, the average time to receive his Street Triple is 4 months. The English factory has just been enlarged but is running at full speed … Unless a drop in demand, the wait is likely to last. As for the R models, "there will be too few", warns the French manager. Not cool…

"The Street Triple R is not for sluts", warns the Hinckley firm! Based on the Street Triple, the R version is equipped with parts that will allow the little English girl to tease the best sports … all over the place.

"New Street Triple R is bursting with competitive tech", swagger also Triumph. New fully adjustable inverted 41 mm fork, better quality shock absorber (the base version was not always reliable and too dry for our taste, read our), new radial brake calipers 4- Nissin pistons that bite the same 308 mm discs … The cycle part is sharp !

The engine, however, remains unchanged: it is the famous Triple 675 borrowed from the Daytona, developing in its "street" version 108 horsepower at 11,700 rpm – rest assured, 106 in France – and 69 Nm at 9,100 rpm. The must in the category, which requires a minimum of discernment…

To complete this R version – like Radicale – Triumph equips it with an aluminum handlebar from Magura. Likewise, the story of power "attack winding parts or make your way through the urban jungle"correctly, the plate is slightly modified…

Indeed, the saddle – biton! – rises by 5 mm and tilts the "Streeple" slightly forward. Suddenly, the saddle reaches 810 mm. Little legs might start to moan.

Naturally, this new 2009 version will also be differentiated by its colors: available from October 2008 in gray "Matt Graphite" with the inscriptions in orange, the Street Triple R will be offered in "Matt Blazing Orange" and gray inscriptions from January 2009.

Regarding the price, the R will cost € 800 more than the basic version, or € 8,790.

Happy (-neville) birthday !

Born in 1959, the Bonneville has become the icon of Triumph. Logical therefore that on the occasion of its fiftieth anniversary, the firm of Hinckley gives its "Bonnie" special attention….

It is "inspired by the 70s"that Triumph created a new ‘SE’ version of its Bonneville and modified the base model."Visually the most noticeable difference are the new 17-inch alloy front and rear rims", notes for us the English.

The mudguards are also shortened, the silencers are directly imported from the "athletic"Thruxton and the brand’s logo are now printed in white: the facelift is light and therefore successful! See you in dealership in October to confirm.

In addition, the handlebars are closer to the pilot, the height of the saddle decreases by 25 mm. "The driving position is more relaxing"says Triumph. And thanks to the lighter front wheel, the Bonneville should also gain in agility and maneuverability. !

In its SE finish, the Bonneville automatically receives the tachometer, chrome tank badges, a brushed aluminum finish for its twin cylinder of 865 cc. It will be available in "Jet Black" or in two-tone "Pacific Blue & Fusion White" at a price of € 9,090, against € 8,390 in its normal version..

For those who prefer the 60s, the T100 corresponds more (9 390 € as a reminder). It also benefits from small alterations: new triple tree, redesigned footrests, black speedometer towers and Triumph logo on the white saddle. Fans will not be lost !

Finally, to properly celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Bonneville, 650 T100 – this number corresponds to the displacement of the T120 of 59 – will come out of the Hinckley factories in blue and orange "Tangerine Dream"from the original model….

Numbered and delivered with a certificate signed by the hand of John Bloor Himself – owner of the English brand -, all will feature a golden Triumph logo on the tank, initials "Bonneville 50th Anniversary"as well as a chrome cylinder head … It will be necessary to fight to obtain one !

Scrambler, Speedmaster … and a 2010 model !

The Scrambler, "which borrows their looks from the off-roads Triumphs of the 60s made famous by Steve McQueen in The Great Escape, "Hinckley recalls, will be available next year in two new colors….

"A tough new look", warns Triumph by introducing its new" Matt Khaki Green ""which directly refers to military motorcycles of the 50s and 60s"and a" Jet Black "… for the naughty boys ?

The Speedmaster will be offered in a new two-tone "Phantom Black & New England White" colourway. The cruiser and its America version only know a little touch for 2009: a golden border "hand painted and signed by its author", insists Triumph.

The only new model to be unveiled by Triumph, the Thunderbird 1600 is a 2010 novelty which will land in its native England at the end of next summer (2009 therefore) !

"We are previewing the Thunderbird – 1600cc cruiser which will only be available from September 2009 – because it is a new segment for us, we want to capitalize on its presentation now to have maximum impact during its marketing", explains Éric Pecoraro, Marketing Director at Triumph France.

Big parallel twin, double pot, double disc at the front but single optics, the English manufacturer proclaims loud and clear that the Thunderbird is "made to reach the level of the best cruisers in the category" !

While waiting for a more complete presentation next year, Triumph draws attention to the fact that its 1600cc twin is entirely new, that it will be equipped with a six-speed gearbox and a secondary belt transmission. ABS will also be available as an option. Wait and see…

McQueen … Steve McQueen

After launching its "vintage worn by" t-shirt, Triumph capitalizes again and again on the image of the charismatic Steve McQueen by launching a new t-shirt bearing the image of the American actor-pilot. This time, the long-sleeved t-shirt reproduces a 1963 photo of the "King of Cool" riding in the Hollywood hills on his Triumph..

Bonneville’s birthday will also be celebrated through a line of products whose cuts and colors will match the model chosen as well as possible….

Triumph also announces the creation of a range of equipment corresponding to the use of its "Urban Sport", namely its models of 675 and 1050 cc. Co-signed Triumph and Alpinestars, a one-piece jumpsuit and jackets and pants – for men and women alike – will be arriving in dealerships at the same time as the new Daytona: at the beginning of December … !
