Yamaha Nmax and D’elight compact scooters evolve for 2021
In 2020 again, Yamaha is overtaken by Honda on the French 125 cc market. The Blues of Iwata intend to retaliate next year by offering new versions of their two compact scooters: a hyper connected Nmax and a hyper connected D’elight… Presentations.
Second best-selling 125 for Yamaha behind King Xmax (5144 registrations at the end of October 2020, against 5138 for the Honda Forza!), The Nmax knows that it can improve its scores: Yam’s compact scooter convinced 1785 French people in 10 months, compared to 2,975 for its rival PCX.
The Blues therefore took advantage of the switch to Euro5 of their "Blue Core" engine to redesign their entry level. "In 2021, the Yamaha Nmax 125 sports an original trim, a new frame and a premium finish adorned with characteristic details", they inform us..

Mechanical and cosmetic have been revamped, "but perhaps the most important change is the presence of the latest generation Yamaha SCCU communications control unit which brings full connectivity and offers a more enjoyable driving experience than ever before".
The "Blue Core" technology which ensures the single cylinder (125 cc, 4-valve, 4-stroke, liquid cooled and variable valve timing!) "Increased combustion efficiency, reduced power loss and improved cooling "? "Moui, it is not bad", will answer undoubtedly the "scootomobilists".
Nmax, a scooter that is good for him
The traction control that avoids skidding on white strips or wet manhole covers of the little 131 kg scooter all full? It’s reassuring, for sure. The "Stop & Start" device to reduce – a little – the consumption and – a lot – the noise at red lights? It is relaxing.
The fact that this small water mill produces 9 kW (i.e. 12 hp out of the 15 maximum allowed by the legislation on 125 cc in France) but only consumes 2.2 l / 100km and can therefore travel more than 300 km with a tank of 7.1 liters while releasing into the air only 52 g / 100km? It is good too.
The new, sportier trim that carefully integrates dual-optic LED headlights, a position light, brake light and indicators? The new frame hidden underneath that improves ergonomics and aerodynamics, increases the range via a tank – twice! – larger, stow a helmet? All this is great…
But according to Yamaha, what will really appeal to new customers, even more than the Blue Core, is Bluetooth! The Nmax indeed inaugurates a communications control unit (SCCU), "an easy-to-use electronic technology that keeps the pilot informed and makes every trip more pleasant and rewarding", promises Yam. Myam !
Once the MyRide application – free! – from Yamaha downloaded to the smartphone, and the latter paired with the scooter, its user accesses "a wide range of technical and operating information, including battery status and oil level, fuel consumption and more". Detail…
If the "Ride & Record" function recording the lean angle, acceleration, speed, distance will be more appreciated by R1 riders or Tracer 9 GT riders, MNC considers that the parking locator could save the day. putting a few "helmets" in the air … They will also appreciate the Smart Key keyless start.
Finally, the Nmax also benefits from a "brand new high-tech LCD instrument panel entirely linked to the new SCCU". In addition to traditional information (speed, trips, fuel, temperature, etc.), it also takes into account "incoming calls, emails and SMS messages, as well as an indicator of the battery status of their smartphone". You have to ride with the times, no ?
D’elight, a scooter that’s good for her
Less popular than the Xmax or the Nmax, the Dmax D’elight is also evolving for 2021. New design and Blue Core engine (Euro5 and "Stop & Start") are also on the program for this super compact scooter which weighs only 101 kg, therefore recommended for beginners and / or small riders.
"Thanks to its extremely low weight, the D’elight benefits from an excellent power-to-weight ratio which offers lively and responsive acceleration," said the Blues of Iwata, convinced of having "one of the most fastest and most economical for getting around in an urban environment ". Strongly deconfinement !
More stable than a scooter, more practical than a car, more compact than a motorcycle, more reliable than public transport, more enduring than a marathoner, more sober than a camel (1.8 l / 100km! ), the Yamaha D’elight indeed multiplies the strengths.
Redesigned, this little scooter hides its game well: "the comfortable two-seater saddle can be unlocked to reveal a waterproof box, spacious enough to accommodate a full-face helmet. This scooter is one of the only models in the category to offer this ideal capacity. for transporting your personal items safely. And it’s perfect for bringing back your last minute shopping ", concludes Yamaha.
