News - Yamaha presents its new YZF-R3 sports bike - A little Yam-miam for A2

While a new video on the future YZF-R1 has just been published today, Yamaha is unveiling its YZF-R3: with its 321 cc twin-cylinder, its mission is to impress the new licenses … to the small sports cars of the competition !

A little Yam-miam for A2

In 2015, Yamaha will therefore add a fourth model to its R series. "This brand new YZF-R3 is the missing link between the YZF-R125 and the YZF-R6: stylish, light, suitable for everyday use but endowed with a sporty character, it will provide intense sensations to those who take it. handlebars".

Accessible – and even destined! – to holders of the A2 license, this new "supersport" motorcycle receives an unprecedented – at least in France – in-line twin-cylinder 321 cc, 4 valves and double overhead camshaft which develops 42 horsepower at 10,750 rpm and 29.6 Nm at 9000 rpm.

Bikers who were already hesitating between the reference Ninja 300 or the bigger CBR500R (read our), or even the very recent one, will have to integrate this new Yamaha machine into their thorny equation (see our little summary at the bottom of the page)…

In the ultra-complete description of their new motorcycle, Iwata engineers claim to have equipped the R3 with "state-of-the-art technologies found on larger displacement Yamaha supersports. By searching well, however, we do not find any trace of ride-by-wire, nor of variable admission, anti-slip clutch or traction control. !

But we must recognize in the little Yamaha some ingenious or noble solutions such as the offset of the central axis of the cylinder in relation to that of the crankshaft (seen on MT at Yamaha), the cylinder made of Diasil, the forged aluminum pistons and their case-hardened connecting rods, the balancing arm, etc..

Site gives you details on the mechanics of the YZF-R3: the is already copied and pasted on the official site of Yamaha Motor France! Ditto for the cycle part, which is after all classic and whose elements and dimensions appear on our technical sheet on the next page.

Note all the same that with its weight of 169 kg all full facts, the future Yamaha does not make interest in the KTM (147 kg dry according to its designer), but it takes the advantage over the Kawasaki, officially displayed at 174 kg all full made with its ABS (optional on the Green, standard on the others including the Yam ‘).

Finally, Yamaha cannot deprive itself of a parallel between its R3 and its future-ex-Superbike: "with this 573mm long swingarm, the R3 chassis has the same swingarm / wheelbase ratio as the R1, the bike ", calculate the Blues. The key to success ?

Behind the small bubble hides a dashboard including all the information necessary for its piloting on track: "analog tachometer, digital speedometer, shift light type speed indicator similar to the one present on the YZF-R1", details Yamaha.

For the road, "this model is also equipped with a gear engaged indicator light, a fuel gauge, a water temperature gauge, a fuel consumption indicator, a clock, an odometer , etc."

The new YZF-R3 will land in April 2015 in two colors: "Race Blu" or "Midnight Black". Its price has not yet been revealed but, as our table below proves, it should be between € 5,500 and € 5,900 (MNC estimate). Unless Yamaha releases a canon launch price ?
