Paris Motor Show - Why Peugeot and Piaggio will be absent from the Paris Motorcycle Show - Used PEUGEOT PIAGGIO

If the main motorcycle manufacturers will participate well in the next Paris Motor Show, two major brands of scooters have however chosen to bypass: Peugeot and Piaggio. MNC spoke with the sales director of the French brand…

In two months, the "Motorcycle, Scooter, Quad and Equipment Show" will be held in Paris: all the major manufacturers of motorized two-wheelers will come to the Porte de Versailles exhibition center … Well, almost all of them, because Peugeot and Piaggio (Aprilia, Vespa and Moto Guzzi) decided not to come !

The package of the Italian brand is understandable: "its" national exhibition of EICMA in Milan (Italy) is postponed this year to the end of November because of the World Expo. Also, in logistical, financial and commercial terms, his coming to Paris seemed both too complicated and expensive, even unnecessary..

For its part, Peugeot Scooters puts forward the same argument: "given its very close dates with the EICMA show in Milan, an essential meeting for Peugeot Scooters, we were unable to identify any synergies between these two events to optimize our investments ".

Milan 1 – 0 Paris

"This Paris show is expensive while its impact is less important than a few years ago, when it was held in the main hall in September", explains to Site Lionel Favre, new sales director France of Peugeot Scooter.

On the part of the French brand, this excuse seems however admissible. Suddenly, the managers of the brand cite other reasons for absence: "the proximity of other events in Paris on the same dates, such as COP 21, further complicates the logistical organization for both our dealers and for us, Peugeot Scooters ".

No, Peugeot is not a partner of the 21st Annual Climate Conference and has no plans to equip the many participants with e-Vivacity electric scooters (instead, Renault Nissan has been tasked with supplying 200 vehicles of types Zoe, Kangoo ZE, Leaf and e-NV200).

"The COP21 is being held from November 30 to December 11, 2015, which is exactly the same time as the motorcycle show," Mr. Favre observes. "All the hotels have been booked for months and traffic in some areas of Paris may be overloaded due to the 200 delegations that will have to go to the conferences every day".

RDV in 2017 … in spring ?

Beyond this situation, our interlocutor regrets that the French show does not take into account the seasonality of the motorized two-wheeler market and therefore actively militates – and passively, through the boycott! – for holding a show in spring…

“Be careful, we are not saying ‘no’ to the Paris show, but to that of 2015,” insists the Peugeot Scooters manager. "We are not coming this year to mark the occasion. We hope to be able to discuss again a show which would be held at a more logical period to sell two-wheelers".

"Remember how it snowed last December", he continues: "similar conditions this year could still limit the number of visitors" … As a reminder, the two previous editions and had attracted more than 180,000 people. How many will they be coming this year, despite the cold and the absence of Peugeot and Piaggio? Answer to follow on MNC: stay connected !
