The 95th edition of Pikes Peak took place this weekend. Winner of the famous American road race in 2013 on Ducati Multistrada 1200 and in 2016 on Kawasaki Z1000, Corsican rider Bruno Langlois hoisted a Z900 on the podium this year, behind two KTM 1290 Super Duke Rs.

The 2017 Pikes Peak Internationnal Hill Climb was contested this Sunday, June 25 and was won by Chris Fillmore who rode a KTM 1290 Super Duke R. The rider – and rookie! – American covered the 19.93 km of the course in 9 ‘49.625: an excellent time that earned him fifth place in the scratch, less than a minute from the French Romain Dumas and his four-wheeled car, the Norma M20 RD.

Site readers – who, as everyone knows, have a little more living memory than others – will note that the record for the two-wheeled event, held since 2012 by Carlin Dunne and his Ducati Multistrada 1200 (9 ‘ 52,819), is finally beaten !

Seventh in the scratch with just eight seconds behind his teammate, Rennie Scaysbrook ensures Katoche a double. The third KTM rider finished about thirty seconds behind his leader and had to settle for fourth place in the motorcycle classification….

In fact, Bruno Langlois took the third step of the podium! Winner of the race and of more than 200 horses (!), The pilot – and dealer – of Ajaccio has succeeded in countering the "maKiavelique" plan of the Orange brand, riding his green but well-prepared Z900.

This year again, Mister Langlois had entrusted the preparation of his 4-cylinder to "Akira Technologies which prepares and monitors the official Kawasaki engines in the Superbike and Motocross world championship", he specified to his "Facebook friends" before the race. "They worked hard this winter to add about 80 horsepower to my engine!"

The most "Rican" of Corsicans benefited at the same time from the efforts made by the engineers of Akashi to reduce as much as possible the full weight of their brand new Zed: 210 kilograms for the, or 10 kg less than the Z1000 … and 19 kg less than the Z800 as a reminder !

"The bike works very well and with the traction control (absent on the original" Nine without aids ", Editor’s note) and the anti-tripping, I’m having fun in the pins, there are 18!", Bruno regaled himself. during the tests during which he never stopped putting pressure on the KTMs.

At the end of his ascent to the – very – snowy peaks of Colorado and on a slightly degraded road compared to last year, Bruno improved his best time by a small second (10 ‘12.317). His third place fully satisfies him and commands the admiration of his competitors. !

“This morning, awards ceremony at Broadmoor: well done to Chris Fillmore and Rennie Scaysbrook and see you next year,” said our international pilot. "Anecdote: I’m talking to Chris. – How old are you? – 30 and you? – 55 … – Oh damn, you’re my father’s age!" He puts gas on this father…

However, the double winner of the PPIHC is not ready to hang up the leather: by walking in the paddock, Bruno Langlois has already found his mount for the 100th edition of the race, scheduled for 2022. After Ducati and Kawasaki, he would be obviously tempted by a Triumph…

There is no question of committing to a new Street Triple RS type roadster, nor on a future Moto2 Grand Prix, and even less on a hypothetical sports which would replace the Daytona 675 or would compete with the current Superbikes (anyway. faired motorcycles are out of categories).

This is a motorcycle registered in the "Challenge – Exhibition Motorsports" category, which has climbed 1440 meters of vertical drop and chained 156 turns in 12 ’46 with Keith Speir: a Triumph C&J from 1969! Hey yes, the "old man" falls for a little old woman … What could be more logical ?
