2019 MotoGP Aragon GP report and results (Marquez winner)
Marc Marquez seals his 200th Grand Prix start with a fourth consecutive victory at the MotoGP Aragon GP, after flying over the 14th round of the 2019 season. Andrea Dovizioso, superb 2nd ahead of Miller, is now 98 points behind the official Honda provisional. Summary and rankings.
Four short laps, and then off … Marc Marquez unsurprisingly escaped as soon as the lights went out at the GP of Aragon by slamming an authoritarian 1’48.330 in his first launched lap, half a second more quickly that Miller and Quartararo left in his wake !

Three more laps under 1’48.9 later, Marquez already has the incredible lead of 2.960 sec: the game is already set for the Spaniard, undefeated since 2016 at MotorLand. The Honda official then manages his colossal advantage (4.836 sec on arrival!), While keeping a small margin to avoid the fall as in Austin at the start of the season.
Marc Marquez won solo without ever having been worried, after having immediately knocked out his rivals with a brilliant time in free practice 1! Rarely has his domination been as complete as this weekend, when he continues his second consecutive success after his victory in San Marino.
The No.93 brings his winning balance to eight this season and reaches 53 MotoGP wins. At 26, the Spaniard is already at the head of an astounding record after 200 Grand Prix starts: 78 wins, 129 podiums, 89 pole and 7 titles including 5 in MotoGP !
Dovizioso, the best of the "others"
Faced with such a phenomenon, his rivals are turning their backs: this is particularly the case of Andrea Dovizioso, perfectly aware of Marquez’s superiority and his insolent ease of handling the RC213V which gives his teammates so much difficulty. !
"Dovi" does not let go for all that and continues to fight to delay the inevitable 8th title of the Spanish: the Italian has delivered an admirable demonstration of his resilience by climbing from 10th to 2nd place during this GP of Aragon !
The n ° 4 signs his 7th podium of the season with the force of the right wrist, joining in passing Loris Capirossi in the number of appearances on the "box" all categories combined (99). The Italian’s comeback lasted until the penultimate lap, where he passed Viñales then firmly installed in 2nd place..
The Yamaha official probably thought he had done the hard part, when he had alternately got rid of Quartararo and Miller at the cost of a superb maneuver on the Ducati rider 16 laps from the finish! Unfortunately, his M1 is barely within 970 m of the straight line against the Italian V4…
Jack Miller, revenge, will also take advantage of the excellent form of the Ducati to in turn overtake Viñales, who lost two places in the last two laps. The Spaniard, finally 4th 5.8 seconds behind Marquez, joins his completely disillusioned Yamaha box…
Quartararo 5th
Fabio Quartararo, qualified 2nd, for his part did not manage to take the wheel of Marc Marquez at the start of the race, as he had hoped for since his superb duel in Misano. No Marseillaise in Aragon as MNC hoped to celebrate the ..
- MNC of September 19, 2019 :
The French rookie actually found himself confronted with the "mechanical" limits of his private Yamaha: how do you compete for the front when your bike is the slowest in the race with 332.3 km / h against … 346.1 km / h for the Ducati of Dovizioso and 342.8 km / h for that of Miller. Between 10 and 14 km / h difference: hello disheveling !
The Honda de Marquez did not stand out on this point either with a small 333.4 km / h, but the Spaniard did the whole race in the lead so without benefiting from suction. This is not the case with its rivals, including Fabio.
Still, the Yamaha rider Petronas was overtaken by Miller’s GP19 before the end of the first lap, then by the factory M1 Viñales. Soon after, Dovizioso gave him the final blow in the straight line by almost a kilometer, overtaking him like a lower displacement !
Rins-Morbidelli clash
This race dominated by Marquez and the Ducatis was also marked by the failed maneuver of Alex Rins, who collided with Franco Morbidelli from behind on the first lap. The official Suzuki rider entered a left too quickly and sent the Italian-Brazilian to the mat.
offers his apologies to after their lap one incident!
– MotoGP (@MotoGP)
End of the game for Morbidelli, who fortunately did not get injured and after the race will accept the apologies of his "executioner". Rins was penalized by a "long lap" by the race management who deemed his "irresponsible driving".
The Spaniard again misses the boat at home, while his GSX-RR seemed able to shine: Rins finished in 9th place despite his penalty and several mistakes made afterwards! And yet his motorcycle bears the scars of his crash: his left wing is snapped..
Rossi 8th, Lorenzo penultimate
Other disappointments of the Grand Prix d’Aragon 2019: the modest eighth place of Valentino Rossi, 23.623 sec behind the winner. The Italian lost two places compared to his position at the start and finished behind … the Aprilia of Aleix Espargaro, author of a splendid 5th place on the grid !
We have a four-way battle for fifth!
Aprilia’s is holding his own against, and !
– MotoGP (@MotoGP)
This is his second consecutive race ended with a serious delay on the other Yamaha riders: first Misano where Quartararo and Viñales stuck to him for more than ten seconds, then Aragon where his delay on the Nice reached 14.739 sec and approached 18 sec ( 17.812 sec) with Viñales !
Jorge Lorenzo also leaves Aragon with low morale: the Mallorcan spent his race fighting at the back of the peloton with the Ducati Avintia of Karel Abraham, the KTM Tech3 of Hafizh Syarhin and the April of the test pilot Bradley Smith !
- MNC of September 22, 2019 : Lorenzo does not intend to give up his Honda to Zarco !
The n ° 99 finally finished penultimate 46.087 sec behind his crushing teammate: it is a little better than in Misano where Marquez had stuck to him … 47.247 sec. At this rate, the Mallorcan will return to the podium when Rossi’s future children ask their retired father for a moped. !
Joking aside, Jorge Lorenzo is certainly not out of place in the bottom quarter of the standings even as he rides the reigning world champion bike. Although he considers the RCV "too short" and his engine too nervous, "Jorgeuil" must raise the bar to prove that he really wants to shine with it. !
Championship point
The victory of Marc Marquez strengthens its boulevard on the competition: n ° 93 is now 98 points ahead of Dovizioso, 144 over Rins and 145 over Petrucci! The Honda official is close to four margin victories, with only five races remaining: he can therefore be titled in the next event in Thailand !
Your podium!
– MotoGP (@MotoGP)
Maverick Viñales, 5th in the provisional with 147 points, is 153 lengths behind but takes a little air on his teammate Valentino Rossi (137 pts). The two official Yamaha are followed by Fabio Quartararo (123 pts), who sees the Australian Jack Miller coming back to five points from him thanks to his podium in Aragon (117 pts).
Honda remains at the top of the "constructor" championship with 65 points ahead of Ducati, while the official Bologna Red team retains the lead in the "team" classification ahead of the HRC. The next race, the GP of Thailand, is scheduled for November 4-6: stay tuned !
