Race - 2019 MotoGP British GP Report and Results (Winner Rins) -

Below everything last year – canceled due to downpour, "what the flute?" -, the Silverstone circuit may have provided the biggest show of the 2019 MotoGP season with a disastrous fall in the first lap, an intense duel in the lead throughout the race and a victory snatched in the final curve…

It is under a bright sun that the MotoGP riders settle on the starting grid: Marc "50% of pole in MotoGP" Marquez places his RCV in first place in front of his enemy’s M1 n ° 1 # 46 Valentino "the ghost" Rossi and the Desmosedici # 43 of Jack "the outsider" Miller. All selected the hard gomes, front and rear.

Fabio "the fastest in free practice then in warm-up" Quartararo on his private M1 n ° 20 – who preferred to wear a medium tire at the front – leads an extremely high second row: Alex "the Sunday pilot" Rins on his Suzuki n ° 42 and Maverick "the diesel-turbo" Viñales…

Departure : Marquez took off perfectly from pole position ahead of Rossi and Rins. Quartararo which set off moderately asking too much of its rear tire at the exit of the first corner (Update: in fact, a slip of Rins disturbed the French) … The Yamaha n ° 20 falls and comes to mow the Ducati n ° 04 !

Valentino and Marc immediately try to escape, Alex surfing in their wake. The peloton was then made up of Viñales, Morbidelli, Crutchlow, Miller, Nakagami and the Espargaro brothers. Marquez attacks very hard from the 1st lap but pushes a little too much and does not distance Rossi.

Dovizioso was evacuated from the runway on a stretcher but got up a few minutes later. The Italian is leaning over a pile of tires: he realizes that his hopes for titles are now dashed … Marquez is warned that his biggest rivals – in the championship and in the clock – are "OUT".

Rins double Rossi in the 2nd round: the Spaniard certainly perceives that the Italian is not quite in the rhythm. Alex climbs quickly into Marc’s rear wheel … Suzuki can maintain a lot more speed in curves, but Honda accelerates a lot harder.

Rossi gives up a few lengths to the leading duo but clings to his third place. His teammate Vinales is several lengths away and is still ahead of Morbidelli and Crutchlow. In the space of two laps, however, the "Doctor" loses all his lead over "Top Gun" … The latter himself moves away from Morbidelli.

In front, Marquez and Rins gauge each other: as soon as n ° 93 accelerates in the 2 ’00, n ° 42 responds to tac-au-tac. Two seconds later, Vinales easily won over Rossi under braking. Can the No. 12 join his compatriots at the forefront? And will n ° 46 be able to benefit ?

Nakagami stops on the edge of the track in the 8th lap, then starts again! At the same time, his English teammate passes – finally? – on the attack: Crutchlow overtakes Morbidelli and climbs into his national "Top Five". Rossi will probably be harder to find…

Far ahead, the duel between Marquez and Rins intensifies: Alex Rins takes advantage of an astounding speed of passage in the curve to overtake from the outside! A few turns further, it is Marc Marquez’s turn to benefit from a small error from his rival to regain the lead.

Shortly before halfway through the race, Zarco attempted an – too – muscular attack on Olivera: the factory No.5 KTM relied heavily on Team Tech3’s No.88, causing the two pilots to fall! Guintoli becomes the last French driver on the track: the n ° 50 Suzuki occupies a nice 13th place, ahead of Syahrin and … Lorenzo.

Still leading the race, Marquez and Rins are continuing their sensational "mano a mano"! The fight is surprisingly sustained and close, despite radically different machines: the Suzuki always loses contact in the stretches against the powerful – and "gripping" – Honda, but scoops easily in the twisty sections….

Alone on the track, Vinales, who seemed offside for the victory, managed to get back on his two very moving targets … Rossi must have missed himself somewhere because No.46 no longer appears behind No.12. He is even threatened by Morbidelli, who has moved up to fifth position. The two friends Crutchlow and Miller compete for sixth place.

In the 16th lap, Rins turns around for a long time to visually estimate his lead over Vinales. A few moments later, the rear of the Suzuki slips away stealthily at the exit of a slow corner! Is this a Michelin tire warning, or was Alex being too generous with the right grip ?

MNC leans for the second answer, because Rins quickly sticks to the backsplash of the Honda. Vinales turns a suspicion faster than the two leading men and reduces his delay to a second … Rins places a first Marquez attack on the inside in Arena, goes out in front but is returned to the acceleration !

The n ° 42 tries its luck again in the Woodcote curve … from the outside this time! Packed – logically, even involuntarily – by n ° 93, Alex bites beyond the vibrators but remains the right grip screwed in fully. The last lap is launched … very well started !

The Honda’s advantage when accelerating is much less than at the start of the race. On the other hand, the Suzuki still has a significantly higher cornering speed, so much so that Rins is up to – and out of – Marquez in some corners. !

Marquez must use all his talent to stay in front of his opponent, but does not manage to get rid of him … In the last sequence of the English route, Rins takes a trajectory a little wider than that of his target. Its goal ? Gain more momentum in the last curve !

Alex Rins’ plan works wonderfully: on his tighter trajectory, Marc struggles to transfer all the power of his Honda to the ground. The RCV drifts slightly towards the outside and relaunches less strongly than the GSX-RR which intersects the traj ‘on the inside and propels itself much better towards the finish line !

Alex Rins finally won by 13 thousandths of a second under the checkered flag against Marc Marquez! Forty years later, Suzuki wins a breathtaking battle of Britain against champion Honda.

Thanks to his second victory this season – after that of Austin against Rossi – Rins stole from transparent Petrucci third place in the provisional classification (149 points to 145). Third in this British GP, Vinales also won a place: he stole the status of first Yamaha rider from Rossi (118 to 116).

Given Dovizioso’s unfortunate abandonment, it is Marquez who performs the best operation in the championship: the quadruple MotoGP champion consolidates his first place by now totaling 250 points, or 78 more than his main rival !

"DesmoDovi" will quickly have to forget his English misadventure and concentrate on the next event which will be contested at his home – at Rossi’s! – in Misano. Ironically, No.04 would just have no memory of his fall with Quartararo: Andrea was therefore transferred to Coventry hospital for exams.

Fabio, for his part, is no doubt aware of having missed out on a formidable opportunity in England: the n ° 20 undoubtedly had the capacity to follow the n ° 93 and 42 in the race. However, the rookie should not regret having confused speed and precipitation: the difference between the two is infinitely small in MotoGP! (Update: in fact, the rookie was surprised by Rins’ kick. It’s racing!).

Because of his legitimate youthful mistake, our “rookie” lost first place in the standings of “independent” pilots in favor of Miller, who came eighth this afternoon (92 points to 94). Overall, Zarco is doubled by Iannone (22 to 27), while Guintoli scores four points and passes the holders Syahrin and Abraham (respectively 7, 6 and 5 points) !
