5th South Morvan rally: the old-fashioned rally !

Road rallies - 5th South Morvan rally: the old-fashioned rally! - At night ... in the rain!

A great feat for Bruno Shiltz on the handlebars of his KTM 690 Duke R who brilliantly won this 5th round of the French championship. A rally with twists and turns, with a typical old-fashioned route, which has wreaked havoc in the rankings… Story.

At night … in the rain !

After two hours of assistance allocated to recondition the machines for the night, the beautiful blue sky gently begins to darken to finally drop a few drops which will become downpours shortly before 10 p.m., start of the stage by night.

But the race does not end for all that and it starts again from Saint-Jean-de-Vaux for loop C, that is to say 149 km with a passage in each of the two specials..

At the level of points for the championship, the counters are reset to zero. The leader of the championship, Julien Toniutti, did not score any point on this day, Florent Derrien barely scored as well as Nicolas Pautet … We will have to wake up the little wolves !

The first connection is very short and simple: 12 minutes to reach Sainte-Helène, located about ten kilometers away. Easy, even in the rain, but enough for a lack of attention from the first kilometer to make me taste the joys of gardening (gardening = finding your way) and waste precious minutes…

I come back in the opposite direction to set off again in the wheel of a competitor who left 5 minutes after me: 7 minutes for 10 kilometers, it is close to 100 km / h on average and by winding and narrow roads in heavy rain, night, as much to say that it was unplayable! Morality: 3 minutes late at the CH Sainte-Helène, or 45 seconds penalty for my apple! And to think that I had zeroed everywhere … Well done, I just had to be careful !

In this special, the official KTM Site pilot Julien Toniutti slams the best pendulum on the handlebars of his 990 SMR: 4’13.93. The "very fast" in the pouring rain, it calms down anyway … Second time for Florent Derrien and his KTM 690 SM in 4’17.54, third Bruno Shiltz (KTM 690 Duke R) in 4’25.24.

Note the remarkable fourth time for the Choda 1100 Kawasaki ZZR sidecar of the Amblard couple (Alain and Olivier) in 4’28.02. The second sidecar, the Voxan 996 Choda of the Boudier / Marty team, nevertheless obtains the 12th scratch here in 4’40.96.

And while I was testing my new tires, I wanted some wetness: eighth fastest time in 4’36.24! I confirm, the Bridgestone T 30 is magic! Grip, feeling of security, fluidity … I like !

We continue towards Aigrefeuille, located a few gardens further away … A dubious road book during the day when the weather is good is even harder to read at night in the rain !

Aigrefeuille by night: it is again Julien Toniutti who gives himself the best time (out of greed) at the controls of his KTM 990 SMR (2’37.14), ahead of Bruno Shiltz and his KTM 690 Duke R (2’40, 16) and Florent Derrien (KTM690 SM).

Note the fine performance of the young Landes from the CMPN (Club Moto Police Nationale) Benoît Nimis on a Yamaha 450 WRF, 5th fastest at Sainte-Helène and 6th at Aigrefeuille. Consistent throughout the race and having taken no penalties, after finishing the day stage in seventh position, this friendly "biker" of the CRS 14 at Cenon (33) can expect an excellent final ranking.

Classics side, Antoine-François Caviglioli on Honda 600 Transalp resists the assaults of Nick Ayrton’s Suzuki 1100 GSXR by winning this special: it’s hot among the "old" !

The route of this loop C continues with a 70-minute link through mountains and valleys, always with the same doubts for the pilots who did not recognize the route in the previous days … Doubts which will still cost a few dear ones. , we take the same ones and start over: Julien Toniutti, Florent Derrien, Nicolas Pautet, Franck Coudert … "Penalties, I pack them for you ?"It will be all in the end, because to the terrible weather was added the fog, especially on Saint Helena where the starting marshals of the special communicated the information to the race HQ of a thickening fog…

Considering the conditions and the garden pilots lost or broken down in their road book (among others!) Everywhere, the race management quickly made the decision to stop the rally at this last time check (CH 15) and to bring everything in. the world to Saint-Jean-de-Vaux by convoys. There will therefore be no loop D, nor a last passage through Sainte-Helène.

A regrettable end for such a beautiful rally, I would have gone all the way myself … In the end, the multiple penalties caused carnage and the places in the rankings no longer have much to do with the times obtained in the special !

Bruno Shiltz on KTM 690 Duke R wins the night stage and at the same time wins the 5th Rallye du Sud Morvan. Benoît Nimis (Yamaha 450 WRF) finished second on the night and third in the general classification of the rally. Finally, superb third place in the night stage for the Alain Amblard / Olivier Amblard crew at the controls of their Choda 1100 Kawasaki ZZR sidecar (13th overall).

Only 34 pilots will finish this rally outright, a race as we like them (the rallyman has masochistic tendencies!), "worthy of a marathon stage at the Dark Dog Moto Tour", considers Olivier Ulmann…

In the provisional championship, nothing has changed in the places of the leaders of the Elite scratch. Julien Toniutti largely retains his place in pole position with now 58 points ahead of his runner-up, Florent Derrien. Franck Coudert completes the trio again, 3 points behind Florent and 5 in front of Nicolas Pautet. Bruno Shiltz, on the other hand, rose to fifth position, 31 points behind Nico Pautet, but with another Nico two points behind him: Nicolas Derrien and his Triumph 675 Street Triple.

Places will be expensive in the top 5 of the 2013 French rally championship! Next event at Blace (69) for the 46th Beaujolais rally, to follow on MNC: stay tuned !
