The 2016 French rally championship is launched: 108 pilots took the start of this 5th edition of the Garrigues rally, organized in Laverune (34) by the Moto Club of the DRAC on Saturday. There are, however, some absences, such as the reigning French champion Julien Toniutti who skips the 2016 championship to devote himself mainly this year to "road races" such as the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy, where the driver official Yamaha is registered in the four categories (600 Supersport, 1000 Superstock, 1000 Superbike and 1000 Senior TT).

Abandoned by Julien, the number 1 plate is very coveted and the competition is very present! On the side of KTM in particular, with the KTM Team France CTM83 and its top driver, Laurent Filleton who lines up like last year on the handlebars of a superb KTM 1290 Superduke R.

The second driver of the 2015 team, Florent Derrien (reigning Mono champion) has been "replaced" by the reigning double champion in the Women’s and Topsport categories Sonia Barbot. Sonia will be at the controls of a KTM 690 Duke R.

But nothing is obvious in rallying, and Ducati Moto Prestige Ajaccio does not intend to cut corners this year by keeping the same Christophe Velardi / Ducati 1200 Multistrada from 2015 with the same objective: to win the supreme title..

The "Manufacturer and Teams" championship is contested by 5 teams on this rally, also the "Kiwi helmets" team is represented by a top driver in the person of Bruno Shiltz riding the Aprilia 1100 Tuono number 5.

Also on Aprilia 1100 Tuono, Sebastien Fassouli represents the "Avon tires" team with the number 8 plate.

Faithful to his Kawasaki 650 Versys, the excellent Maxime Mettra rides under the banner of the Helit Moto / Challenge 24 team.

No team is registered for Yamaha for this first rally of the championship, which does not prevent us from finding a motivated Benoît Nimis riding a Yamaha MT09 who will shine during this rally..

Another Yamaha will be led to the forefront, thanks to the legendary solidarity of the rallymen … Julien Toniutti having chosen to stay on the sidelines, he will lend his "personal" Yamaha 450 WRF to Florent Derrien to allow him to ride ! A beautiful gesture to which Florent will not fail to honor with his results.

On the side-cars side, we can also note the absence of the reigning champion team, the couple Alain and Edith Amblard at the controls of their 1300 Hayabusa team, but the succession is there, with the Choda Suzuki 1300 team. by Norbert Jacob and Franck Bacon. Christophe Boudier / Vincent Marty are at the controls of their inseparable side 1000 Voxan, or the superb KTM RC8 Choda sidecar, ex-champion of France 2014 with the Herve Laur / Marie Laure Ferrieu team, here in the hands of Maxence Solinhac and Sandrine Tous. It will also move in the baskets !
