Rallye des Garrigues: Velardi leads the way

Road rallies - Rallye des Garrigues: Velardi leads the way - Night stage and final classification

Following the retirement of n ° 2, Laurent Filleton (KTM 1290 Superduke KTM Team France / CTM 83) who fell at the start of the race, Ajaccian rider Christophe Velardi (Ducati 1200 Multistrada) won the rally. But it’s jostling behind ! Story.

Night stage and final classification

The night will be relatively short. A course of around one hundred kilometers, three specials, short but intense !

The start this morning had been given without number 1 due to the absence of Julien Toniutti … and tonight’s start will be without number 2. Motorcycle too damaged to leave this evening and rider slightly injured but who keeps morale "I’m disappointed for the race but in any case I’m happy to be here again!" Laurent Filleton admits to Site, alluding to the violence of his fall…

At the night passage of Murles, Bruno Shiltz on the handlebars of his Aprilia 1100 Tuono Kiwi helmets opened the ball in 1’44.06. Benoît Nimis (Yamaha MT09) follows suit 43 hundredths further in 1’44.49. Christophe Velardi (Ducati 1200 Multistrada / Ducati Moto Prestige) is third in 1’45.28.

The route then descends more directly than during the day to the Aumelas special for its first night passage. The additional Tecnoglobe led lights of the Yamaha MT09 piloted by Benoît Nimis seem to be having an effect, Benoît has the best time in 1’42.60! Christophe Velardi’s Ducati 1200 Multistrada takes second time, just 25 hundredths behind Benoît in 1’42.85. Third time for Bruno Schiltz at the controls of his Aprilia 1100 Tuono in 1’44.23. Christophe regained his small margin of two seconds and a few on Bruno for the victory of the rally, but there is still a passage to do in this special which will be the last of this 5th rally of the Garrigues, and the Ajaccien driver wants to keep his pace without taking more risks.

During this 9th and last special, Benoît Nimis confirms his nocturnal superiority on the handlebars of his Yamaha MT09 "tecnoglobise" and again takes the best time (1’42.19) ahead of Christophe Velardi (Ducati 1200 Multistrada / Ducati Moto Prestige) who gets 1’43.20 and Bruno Shiltz (Aprilia 1100 Tuono / Kiwi helmets) is third in 1’44.40.

Behind we find the eternal fourth time of the Garrigues with the Yamaha 450 WRF number 4 (his favorite number?) Of Florent Derrien in 1’47.48. Surprised in fifth position, Nicolas Sassolas, latest recruit of the famous Rally Moto Racing assistance team, a former endurance rider who was doing his first rally here, and who seems to understand how it works on the handlebars of his BMW S 1000 R, 5th time in 1’49.58, well done Nico !

Thanks to Francis Mathieu, pilot of the number 38 KTM 990 Superduke, who waited for Nico from the start of the rally to serve as his pilot fish (we have to encourage the newcomers!).

Francis is a rallyman with a big heart, not being registered for the next rally (the Sarthe rally), he will lend his motorcycle to Marc Troussard (myself) to allow him to ride, the latter still not having no handlebars for the 2016 season … Double thank you Francis !

In the bad news section, things are less pleasant: the route of this fifth Rallye des Garrigues crossed a lot of towns, also the PSR (Road Safety Platoon armed with binoculars, the "police" of the rallies …) were strategically ambushed at several critical points on the rally route to track speeding.

Maxime Mettra, then placed in the first 5 places of the scratch and well ahead of the Sport 2 category on the handlebars of his Kawasaki 650 Versys / Helit Moto – Challenge 24, will pay the price (like a dozen other riders) and get hit. 4-minute penalty! He will therefore fall in the standings to find himself in 72nd position in the Scratch ranking, 6th Sport 2.
