Thursday evening: beautiful Jehan !
Short stage Thursday evening without road book or Tripy: it is in column by one, framed by impeccably organized motorcycles, that we go to the Spa-Francorchamps Karting circuit for sessions by series of eight drivers.
Fred Fiorentino (read) thrills the crowd of spectators gathered in the stands in an atmosphere worthy of the Bercy Supercross with his Supermotard-style driving, but it is Jehan d’Orgeix who offers himself the victory of this stage thanks to a driving clean and smudge-free! Friday: sunshine and change in mind…
The sun that appeared on Friday caused mayhem in the rankings: the multiple changes of direction and the chrono base caused damage! We thus find Frederic Lejeune in the lead who saves the honor of the family following the unfortunate absence of his miraculous brother Eric (see our video) by taking the head of the provisional, followed by Wilfried Tallone. Report:
That’s it, the road is dry! The sun is shyly showing its nose gradually throughout the day to completely bathe the Spa-Francorchamps circuit at the finish of the loop! But among the top pilots, things are moving !
Special 1: Wanne, then Base chrono
Fred Fiorentino confirms his supremacy by offering himself the scratch at 3 tenths ahead of Emmanuel Siaux. For the moment all is well, nothing transcendent, the head of the race remains in place…
But that was without counting the chrono base! A departure signaled at the exit of CH1 and a secret finish to be covered precisely at an average of 60 km / h … Game of skill? No, rally, because you also have to know how to make your head work !
The main problem with this chrono base was that it had some changes of direction, sometimes under a thick forest, and the Tripy was the victim of brief cuts … It was better to anticipate these reception cuts and rely on the chrono / agreement. distance! A real puzzle where the smartest have succeeded !
The course
A road course as beautiful and picturesque as ever: the long connections allow a few nice breaks and even to exchange a few words with the Belgian population of legendary kindness. Like this little Patrik and his dad, admiring the splendid orange and black FZ6 in the colors of Site !
Chrono base
Maximum tension among all the pilots: our venerated Tripy, the only way for many of us to follow the route, was going to prove very uncertain just when we should not lose 100 m of the asphalt that was passing under our wheels !
A Tripy made random by the high humidity stored in the leaves of the trees and, as if by chance, the chrono base took place mainly in the forest! Some people start to quickly take notes on the indications of upcoming changes of direction, others learn them by heart (like me!) And the old rallymen faithful to the paper road-book rub their hands !
More fear than harm in the end, because the few alarming reception cuts in no way hampered the progress of the base: I even managed to pass the arrival cell with only 1 second of difference, with the only means of reference my Tripy and my watch !
But the reception of the satellites was not the only cause of the confusion of some, like Emmanuel Siaux who made a mistake in a change of direction, or Fred Fiorentino victim of a supposedly anticipated departure: a bad manipulation of the commissioner would be in question … but with all reservations !
In short, the seconds of difference rain in the good and it is expensive: Fred Fiorentino loses the pole of the rally and Emmanuel Siaux tumbles in the classification !
The best time tied in this time base goes to Patrick Bournissien (Promotion category on Triumph Speed Triple) and to Luc Martin (Promotion also and Classic in addition, riding a BMW R80GS): both have passed the arrival of the chronograph base at zero !
We arrive at the midday break for a 1h30 comforting break, animated by the stories on the time base: we discover in particular the absolute record of the error in time base held by Nick Ayrton, who would have done 12 km instead of the 4 planned…
Catastrophic CH
Leaving after the midday break, a very short 2.5 km link should bring us to the second special … But many leading drivers, annoyed by the time base and in a hurry to join the special to make the powder speak. , managed to get lost during this short distance! And the penalties were raining, raining: 3 minutes of penalty for Denis Bouan, among others … La Berezina !
Special 2: Theux
Small, narrow and very technical, the Theux special allows Thierry Godrfoid to place his Kawasaki 300 KCX-R in first place: a scratch in 1’27.56 ahead of Fred Fiorentino in 1’29.73. The first Promo, David Baudelet, places his BMW 1200 K1200R in 9th scratch position.
Jehan d’Orgeix of Team Balladins on Honda 600 CBR is satisfied with the third time in 1’30.00.
Arrival of the loop in the sun !
With more people than yesterday in the rain, it feels like the finish of a Dakar! Enormous changes therefore in the rankings, with Fiorentino falling to 21st place and giving up pole to an excellent Frederic Lejeune on BMW HP2.
And the BMW HP2s, like the cops, progress as a group: Florent Parret of Team 202 (CMPN) also climbs in the ranking, now occupying 10th place in the general scratch !
Tonight
And things may still change with this evening’s stage: a night stage with a small loop of 130 km and a tight CH of 12 minutes for 10.5 km … You will have to monitor the lighting of your Tripy !
Sure there will still be trouble so stay tuned, you will know everything in detail on the Site from tomorrow !
