After the first test at Le Mans (read), the 2007 French Rally Championship went into exile this weekend in Corsica in the seaside resort of Porticcio, in the Gulf of Ajaccio, for the second round.

A return to the Isle of Beauty initiated by Thierry Canazzi (2006 French champion in the Sport category). Because after the late Tour de Corse from another era, the motorcycle rally had only done "some sporadic appearances on Corsican soil in the course of the 80s and 90s", recalls the French Motorcycling Federation (FFM).

The only island driver to regularly compete in the French Rally Championship for a few years, Thierry Canazzi has undeniably been able to create emulators since, of the 134 competitors entered this weekend in Corsica, there are no less than 35 locals. !

"Declined according to a classic pattern comprising two day laps for the first stage and two night laps for the second, this first organization of Racing Moto-Club Corsica is intended to be attractive and lasting.", specifies the FFM.

The start will be given on Saturday morning at 10 am on the Marines site in Porticcio for a very winding 100 km loop to be covered four times which should be the delight of single cylinders. !

"Some pilots, such as Thierry Canazzi or Florent Parret, have a problem adjusting their steering damper because the Corsican specials are particularly bad.", specifies our special correspondent in Corsica Marcus Himself:"it’s very winding and in places it goes very quickly in the stoned !"

So much so that the ignoble Chevalier Nuques, winner in Sarthe, will swap his faithful Yamaha R1 for a no less valiant 450 WRF much more suited to small Corsican roads … Equipped with this superb bladed weapon prepared onions by Les Deux Wheels with its carbon wheels, the sinister Chevalier is clearly one of the big favorites this weekend…

As for Thomas Laroche, also armed with a 450 WRF which he had managed to place in third place in the scratch classification in the Sarthe, he fell last night during the reconnaissance following a slide forward in a very fast. He had to be transferred to hospital after losing consciousness, but he hopes to be there when leaving on Saturday !

Second in the Sarthoise event but leading the provisional general classification, Emmanuel Siaux – who swapped his Yamaha for the new Buell XB12STT (read) – could also do well, just like Greg Debize and François Boss on their Aprilia Tuono … Without forgetting of course Thierry Canazzi who, on his land, should also be able to make the powder speak – in the figurative sense! – on the handlebars of his Aprilia 550 SXV…

"It’s a rally with a big heart", summarizes Alain Amblard … Appointment Monday for the full report on Site and until then, thank you to Bar Xavier in Acqua Doria as well as to the City of Coti-Chiavari for the transmission of photos !
