Road rallies - Thierry Canazzi, the official Corsican! -

French champion in the Sport category in 2006, Thierry Canazzi renewed his title last year, but this time in a KTM 400 EXC. In 2009, he was a KTM support pilot riding a 690 SMC. A pre-involvement of KTM in the discipline ?

A constructors’ championship ?

The FFM road rally commission set up a constructors’ championship last year. But the challenge did not appeal to importers and due to lack of participants, it was decided to suspend this operation in 2009 … The file nevertheless remains under the elbow of the members of the committee and could be relaunched in 2010 … Opinion to amateurs !

Until now, the French road rally championship had scarcely sensitized the brands. Despite some implications of Yamaha (with yours truly in the 90s, then with Serge Nuques – unbeatable in recent years -, or a partnership with the CMPN), a remarkable investment on the part of Buell with Emmanuel Siaux in 2008 until its championship package after the Ain rally (read), importers are still helping road rally pilots. But the discipline is starting to make people talk about it, in particular thanks to the Dark Dog Tour but also with the IRC (international road rally championship), still in the starting blocks to evolve towards a world championship..

Today, it is KTM that pays close attention to road rallying: motivated by the excellent results of its drivers in rallying (Gilles Salvador on the last Dark Dog Tour 2008, or Julien Toniutti vice-champion of France Topsport and winner of the Espoir Cup 2008), the Austrian manufacturer has therefore decided to "give a hand" to a top driver of the French rally championship: Thierry Canazzi.

Former rally driver of the 90s who retired from the field a few years but who marked his return with places of honor since 2004, Thierry had not remained in his slippers during his "rally truce", with some appearances in branded trophies at the opening of the Bol d’Or 1995 and 1996 … But the nostalgia of his friends reminded him to his sources: after a quick stint in the French Supermot Championship in 2003 he returned to hit the clock on the small roads of France! One of the best drivers in the discipline, he now has 34 podiums and 15 victories in this championship..

Corsican also stands out in the world of road rallying by its always very clean image, bordering on "factory spirit". The care he brings to his look, combined with his convincing results, have allowed him to gain the confidence of KTM France to represent the brand during the 2009 French rally championship..

Thierry thus won a "support pilot" contract, thanks to the involvement of the new KTM dealers in Corsica: Loïc Leroy and François Massoni, the bosses of ML Moto, who entrusted Thierry with a superb KTM 690 SMC so that he could hoist it to the highest of the 2009 championship rally rankings.

With this superb tip top preparation machine (factory suspensions, Beringer brakes, Akrapovic exhaust, BST carbon wheels, Goldspeed tires, Formula Top Xenon lighting, etc.), the Corsican rider is armed for a 2009 season that promises to be promising. To be continued … Stay connected !
