Lots of anecdotes on the same day, with of course another stage victory for the untouchable Chevalier Serge Nuques and his Yamaha 450 WRF. A stage classified on only one special, but with a lot of connections and some unforeseen events ….
The day started badly: the Ain Tounine special, very narrow between low walls and as gravelly as it was twisty, could not be sufficiently secured. So the organization decides to purely and simply delete it from the day’s program.
The stage will therefore be played mainly on one special, that of Oued el Khill, already borrowed twice yesterday (including once in neutralization).
To avoid the canceled special, a detour is planned which moves the CH "noon" and leads us to a pleasant lunch break, after having done the day’s special relatively early in the morning..
At the Oued el Khill special, no surprise: Sergei the Magnificent slams the best on the handlebars of his Yamaha 450 WRF time ahead of Vincent Philippe on Suzuki 450 RMX R and Dominique Mougey on Suzuki 650 Vstrom, 5.5 seconds from the time of the Grolandais knight.
Serge thus largely consolidates his first place in the provisional TRT 2012. The games are almost made for the final scratch since the Grolandais with a lead of 1’01.1 minutes on Vincent Philippe, but not yet completely for the victory in Multicylinder: David Di-Nitto and his Suzuki 750 GSXR are only 2.51 seconds from Dominique Mougey…
But in rallying, nothing is ever won in advance and anything can happen! Like Roland Luksemberg‘s puncture (BMW F 800 GS), which happened fortunately for him once he arrived in Sfax, the city of embarkation for the Kerkennah Islands.
It must be said that the connection route was hectic! The police who showed us the road to the entrance to the town of El Hamma took us through a rubbish dump and thus deviate a tad from the original route. As for the sand track that we had to take for a few kilometers, it caused some crossing problems for some (s) !
And in particular to the Belgian driver Catherine Brutout (Aprilia Pegaso) at the back of the pack. The previous pilots driving mostly in groups, Catherine delayed since the start by a recalcitrant battery found herself alone in the world but still managed to join Sfax !
The link, relatively long and adventurous, will leave a lot of memories for many pilots of this first Tunisia Rally Tour … But we will soon be back in more usual landscapes and the change of scenery will be missed….
Then it’s time to embark on the ferry to go to the Kerkennah Islands, once again with a real taste of vacation! The "GO" Patrick Bournisien, helped by Kais Chaibi, leads his boat perfectly and takes the right decisions at the right time, which makes the race more enjoyable for the competitors..
The disembarkation will be a little late (around 5.30pm it is already dark!) And we find the same at the awards ceremony: Serge Nuques winner, followed by Vincent Philippe and Dominique Mougey. For my part, the Yamaha 1200 Super Tenere holds its third place in the provisional classification of the Multicylinder category. !
See you tomorrow for the last stage of the Tunisia Rally Tour 2012, with a special on the Kerkennah Islands and one on the continent. The arrival in Hammamet and will crown the winner of the rally … Stay tuned !
