Appointed Director General of the National Police by Nicolas Sarkozy in 2007, Mr. Pechenard also held various positions within the Paris Police Prefecture: head of the Banditry Repression Brigade from 1996 to 2000, head of the Criminal Brigade of 2000 to 2003, deputy director of economic and financial affairs from 2003 to 2006 and finally director of the active services of the prefecture of police, in charge of the regional directorate of the judicial police from 2006 to 2007.
Frederic Pechenard is an officer of the Legion of Honor, an officer in the National Order of Merit, an officer of the Academic Palms, medal of honor of the national police and medal of the national gendarmerie. He is also the holder of several decorations awarded by the Spanish authorities: cross of the Commander of the Order of Isabella the Catholic, Silver Cross of the Guardia Civil and "medal for police merit with white distinctive"…

He is also the author of two books on the world of the police: "Trap for a cop" co-written in 2003 with Luc Jacob-Duvernet and "Gardien de la Paix" published in 2007.
