Road safety - The road prevention communicates with young moped riders - To attract the attention of the public authorities

To fight against accidents in young people aged 14 to 17, Road Safety is launching an awareness campaign with the French Federation of Insurance Companies called Mortel Scooter. Enlightenment to better educate? Explanations.

Attract the attention of public authorities

Taking advantage of the launch of this shock campaign, the Prevention Routière and the FFSA ask the public authorities to react to the increase in accidents among the youngest by improving in particular the training and safety of mopeds..

They propose to "make obtaining the BSR a real exam, empower mopeds by instituting a points BSR registered and controlled by the public authorities, and institute a one-hour training course for parents or "guardians" on various risks of driving, jailbreaking and their impact in terms of insurance".

In addition, the Road Safety Authority wishes "that a technical control of motorized two-wheelers be put in place in order to avoid unclamping and kiting of very many mopeds". Recalling the dangers and consequences – fines, immobilization of the vehicle and not taken into account by the insurance – of the unclamping of cyclists and their poor condition, the association considers that technical control would make it possible to avoid a large number of accidents.

From there to resurface the specter of technical control, applicable to all motorized two-wheelers regardless of the age of the pilot or the displacement of the vehicle, there is only one turn of the wheel…
