2013 Street Triple R test: a brawler "R" !
Unveiled at the Intermot show in Cologne, the 2013 Triumph 675 Street Triple vintage will arrive in dealerships in mid-November. Moto-Net was able to try it in version "R" in the vicinity of Almeria, in Spain, during its official presentation to the press.. Test.
New chassis and optimizations for 2013
Appreciated in France since its launch in 2007 (read our), the Triumph 675 Street Triple has experienced a small decline this year: -23% registrations over 9 months 2012 compared to 2011. A decline attributable to the economic crisis , of course, but also to fierce competition from other manufacturers: Honda CB600F Hornet, Kawasaki Z750 (soon Z800!), Suzuki GSR750 and Yamaha FZ8, in particular.

Difficult under these conditions to replay the score of 2011, with 2330 Street registered in the year on our territory. However, this does not detract from the exceptional aura of this motorcycle, sold to date more than 50,000 copies worldwide..
It was nevertheless time to react, which did not fail to do the British manufacturer, which offers the Street Triple – built and assembled in the Triumph factory in Thailand – its third major evolution (read).
In 2011, the beauty of Hinckley had already benefited from a substantial restyling, with the abandonment of the original round double optical headlight and many upgraded elements: branded engine casings, new footrest plates, exhaust line with brushed aluminum finish, more modern Daytona R-style tank logos, Speed-inspired radiator covers and small grille-shaped covers in the upper triangles of the tubular frame.
For 2013, the Street Triple goes further with the removal of one of its characteristic elements, appreciated by a large number of aficionados: its double exhaust silencer coming out under the saddle. A choice perfectly assumed by the brand, which highlights the benefits of this modification, namely a substantial weight gain (-3.6 kg for the exhaust) and a lower center of gravity able to improve the already very satisfactory agility of the Street Triple.
It therefore receives, like many of its rivals, a single stainless steel silencer (three in one), placed low and coming out to the right of the rear wheel. The aesthetics of this new exhaust line are enhanced by a covering of the tubes passing under the engine, perfectly matched with the new silencer..
The small grid-style covers are replaced by more sober elements and a new plastic element advantageously dresses the lower edges of the tank, improving the connection between it and the frame. Another bright red plastic part (on the "R") appears at the side covers of the water radiator, contributing to the aesthetics of the whole..
The chassis also evolves, with an aluminum frame made lighter by the use of fewer welds and parts (8 elements instead of 11), a new swingarm (-0.6 kg), a new rear frame loop (-0.8 kg) and new rims (-1 kg).
As before, this "R" version differs from the standard model by its more qualitative equipment, in particular its upside-down 41 mm Kayaba fork, fully adjustable, its Kayaba rear monoshock shock with separate cylinder, its 310 mm double disc brake and calipers. Nissin 4 piston front radials and Brembo single piston rear caliper.
In the end, the Street R 2013 is reduced by 6 kilograms, with a full weight of 183 kg. Its geometry is also evolving, with a shortened hunting angle (which goes from 23.9 ° to 23.4 °) and a distribution of the masses loading more the front axle (52% against 49% on the Street R 2012). The steering angle is also improved from 28 to 31 degrees.
