Svartpilen 701: Husqvarna finally shoots its black arrow !

Husqvarna (KTM Group) unveils the final version of its Svartipilen 701, a motorcycle directly derived from the excellent 690 Duke. Like the Vitpilen 701, this "black arrow" stands out with its unique look and high-end equipment.. Presentation.

One year after the Cafe Racer style, Husqvarna launches a new motorcycle inspired this time by flat track: the Svartpilen 701. This 2019 novelty completes a now rich range of four models: the Vitpilen and Svartpilen 401 based on and the Vitpilen and Svartpilen 701 derived from .

Engine and cycle parts are identical to the KTM roadster, owner of the Husqvarna brand since 2013: a crisp single-cylinder 75 hp and 72 Nm, in an extremely rigorous trellis frame. Like the KTM, the Svartpilen 701 is a light motorcycle since its dry weight would be "158.5 kg", a pledge of lively behavior including with the limited version at 47.5 hp offered for A2 licenses..

The 150mm front-to-rear travel suspensions come as usual from WP – another brand in the KTM group – and are geared towards high-end: the 43mm inverted fork and link-mounted monoshock are fully adjustable. Braking is in tune with a Brembo 4-piston radial caliper, tasked with pinching a 320mm front disc under the supervision of an angle-sensitive Bosch ABS. 

The Svartpilen 701 is part of this emerging and still ill-defined trend of neo slightly tinged with retro, like Honda’s Neo Sports Cafe range. Its headlight, its tank and its rear shell are rather classic while the bike is perfectly in its time with its LED lighting, its electronic accelerator, its bi-directional shifter as standard, its traction control and its dynamic general silhouette..

"The presence of a flat-track-inspired side panel contributes to the bike‘s timeless charm," suggests Husqvarna, emphatically adding that its "reduced-size" stern gives the impression of "floating above the rear wheel. "…

A wheel whose diameter also differs from the front: 18 inches at the front to accentuate the "off-road" image against 17 at the rear. Both are shod with Pirelli cobblestone tires, the very fashionable MT60 RS adopted as standard by several scramblers from other brands.. 

Husqvarna does not yet communicate the price or the availability of its main novelty for 2019, some weaknesses are evident from reading its technical sheet: its seat height (835 mm) may for example limit its accessibility, while its fuel tank only 12 liters will limit its field of action.

Moreover, as powerful and fun as it is, the 692.7cc mono has a "hardened" character specific to this engine, with in particular some vibrations and limited flexibility under 3000 rpm. Finally, its price probably close to 10,500 euros (the Vitpilen 701 is displayed at 10,290 €) may constitute a brake on a big popular success….
