Less flashes, but more cash. To summarize, this is what emerges from the 2015 report of the National Agency for the Automatic Processing of Infractions (ANTAI) in charge of automatic speed cameras in France. Less flashes, but more cash. To summarize, this is what emerges from the 2015 report of the National Agency for the Automatic Processing of Infractions (ANTAI) in charge of automatic speed cameras in France. If the booths were slightly less crackling last year (all the same 20.24 million, against 20.37 million in 2014), the increased efficiency of the device leads to a higher rate of ticketing. Explanations.

A record "conversion" rate

In short, drivers surprised by speed cameras are increasingly receiving a plum, where many flashes remained untapped until now (oh, too bad …). In the jargon of the ANTAI, this "flash / ticket sending" ratio is called "conversion rate": in 2015, this would reach a new record with "65.7%", for a total of 13.31 million fines against 12.56 million in 2014. We can’t stop progress !

The 10 most "efficient" radars in France in 2015

– Les Adrets-de-l’Esterel (A8): 138,624 flashes.

– Bedarrides (A7): 103,070 flashes.

– Coudekerque Branch (A16): 101,808 flashes.

– Cabries (A51): 101,115 flashes.

– Janvry (A10): 96,197 flashes.

– Grande Synthe (A16): 94,278 flashes.

– Bessey-en-Chaume (A6): 92,394 flashes.

– Battens (A9): 82,939 flashes.

– L’Hay-les-Roses (A6a): 82,938 flashes.

– Massy (A10): 82,342 flashes.

This increase in the conversion rate can be explained by several factors. First, the continuous improvement of the means of tracking speeding violations, particularly in terms of the quality of the shot. In addition, the alliances signed with various European countries now make it possible to pursue .

In 2015, this still represents some 2.3 million tickets sent outside French borders. Remember, if necessary, that the reverse is just as valid: if you have a heavy hand on a road in Italy, Spain or Poland, the country dance will follow you as soon as you return home..

Finally, the multiplication of types of radars also contributes to a better profitability of their flashes. Thanks to the installation of radars equipped with so-called "two-way" systems, capable of flashing in both directions of traffic, the fixed cabins saw their balance increase to reach 10.93 million flashes in 2015.

The 3 departments where it "crackles" the most

– Paris: 703,957 flashes in 2015

– Essonne: 460,011 flashes in 2015

– Yvelines: 397,394 flashes in 2015

In addition, the section radars, which measure the speed between two points, flashed 444,204 times against 316,655 last year. On the other hand, mobile radars, autonomous (movable) or embedded in cars – in short, all devices requiring human intervention – have a little less "card" than expected….

This could be explained by "the mobilization of the police on other missions in the periods which followed the attacks of January and November", according to ANTAI. The interministerial delegate for road safety, for his part, has an explanation for this downward trend observed in the total number of flashes, which he illustrates with an irrefutable scientific comparison….

"It’s a bit like with drugs or diets: the first time, it works very well and then it works less well because antibodies are created. Today, people know the locations of the radars", observes the "doctor" Emmanuel Barbe with infinite wisdom…

Driving assistance applications – again – pointed out

"Perhaps the radar response is no longer adapted to new behaviors", wonders Anne Lavaud, general delegate of the road prevention association, pointing out the widespread use of smartphones and the use that is made to detect speed cameras via specific applications.

vicious precise, like !

"We must repeat the exercise, ensure that our radars are more feared", hammers Emmanuel Barbe loudly. Because, it is well known, fear avoids danger !
