Speed cameras - Automatic speed cameras will work on Friday -

Nicolas Sarkozy, Gilles de Robien and Remy Heitz inaugurated yesterday in front of the press the first automatic speed camera in La Ville-du-Bois on the RN20. The first machines will start working on Friday and the PV will go on Saturday…

Radar or not, the average speed on the RN20 near La Ville-du-Bois has probably never been as low as yesterday afternoon !

Access ramp closed "except official", deployment of cops on bridges and bodyguards in close protection: Nicolas Sarkozy (Minister of the Interior), Gilles de Robien (Minister of Transport), Remy Heitz (interministerial delegate for Road safety) and a whole range of officials inaugurated in front of the press – and motorists stuck in traffic – the first automatic radar (read).

The radars already installed (read) will be active from Friday and will allow the first fines to be sent on Saturday. "This only takes from the rear and therefore also concerns bikers", explains Raphaël Bartolt, director of the Automated Sanction Control project. "During the tests, we even clocked a motorcycle traveling at 188 km / h instead of 70!" On a very straight four-lane that we can imagine clear (difficult to brush against the 190 in full traffic!), Separated by a central wall and on the handlebars of a machine probably designed to reach much higher speeds, the anecdote n There is nothing exceptional about it … But it does not fit into the narrow box of political correctness: "speed = danger".

The basic motorist, who once looked in his mirrors to please the examiner on the day of the permit, who dislocates without blinking while reading the newspaper and who rolls at 1.50m from the car in front, can therefore go back to sleep quiet: he respects the limitations !

By the end of the year, 30 mobile digital radars will equip unmarked cars (15 for the police and 15 for the gendarmerie). One is already in operation in Yvelines and the other in Savoie, but this equipment only works when stationary on the side of the road, not in circulation.

The CNIL, apart from some cosmetic adjustments aimed in particular at facilitating the offender’s access to the photo taken by the machine, has issued a favorable opinion. "This recommendation has been acted upon," explains Remy Heitz, "and we will send the photo to the offender who requests it, as is currently the case. This system is legally validated and it already exists in other European countries subject to the same European legislation as us ".

No tolerance other than that of the machine (+ 5 km / h up to 100 km / h and + 5% beyond) not being provided, the device should therefore be triggered from 96 km / h on the road and 137 on the highway. A preferential treatment will however be granted at the beginning on the Parisian periphery: "as it is about a loop on which are installed eight radars, there will be no withdrawal of points because we want to avoid that the drivers lose their allowed after half a turn of the ring road! ", explains Remy Heitz.
