According to local newspaper Eastern Daily Press, the reigning British Superbike champion crashed in official Snetterton testing as he entered the third corner of his third lap.

The 41-year-old Ducati rider, who raced in MotoGP from 2004 to 2005, is said to have "briefly lost consciousness" upon being transferred to the circuit medical center, before being admitted to hospital for further examinations. A medical report released yesterday at 6:00 p.m. indicates that "Shane Byrne has been transferred to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital for CT scans. He is conscious but remains under observation to treat his neck and back injuries.".
