Evo6: the six-cylinder of the Gold as a technological showcase
Too expensive to produce a production bike equipped with MotoGP’s famous RRS V5? Never mind: Honda unveils a world preview at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show of a prototype cruiser with an automatic flat-six. Presentation.
After the F6C and the Rune in the United States, Honda is currently presenting at the Tokyo Motor Show a prototype of a large roadster equipped with the famous flat 6-cylinder of the Goldwing..
The project had been lying around for some time in the drawers of Honda’s Research and Development department in Japan, but it has now materialized in the form of a prototype presented in Tokyo..
At the origin, we find the will of Honda Europe to develop in series a motorcycle on the basis of MotoGP V5. But for technical reasons, Japan decided otherwise.
The EVO6 therefore adopts the engine of the Gold, in the form of a big stocky and muscular roadster which clearly brings out the flat-six, accompanied by an imposing radiator and a minimalist exhaust outlet (6 in 3 ) whose proportions are reminiscent of those of the MotoGP RRS.
The front is equipped with a five LED optics and the main objective of this is to "shade all the other two-wheelers in the street", warn Japanese engineers.
On the transmission side, Honda claims that the EVO6 is automatic but does not specify whether it receives the HFT (Human Friendly Transmission) from the DN-01 which allows you to juggle between three driving modes: automatic, automatic "sport" and manual 6 speeds.
Finally, unlike the DN-01 (or the Goldwing), the roadster is presented with a final transmission by chain and not by cardan.
Will this sporty cruiser see the light of day in the near future? "We wish him the same life as the DN-01 presented two years ago and released today"(read), hopes the CEO of Honda France, Florent Lionnet (our video opposite).
To be continued: the Yamaha and Suzuki prototypes currently on display at the Tokyo Motor Show 2007 … Stay tuned !
