Ana Carrasco in search of a second WSSP300 title in 2021 with Kawasaki
Nicknamed the "pink warrior", Ana Carrasco is the only woman to date to have won in the motorcycle speed world championship (solo). Three years after her World Supersport 300 title and barely recovered from a nasty back injury, the Spanish rider is back in charge, still with the Provec Kawasaki team.
We do not change a team that won a world title in World Supersport 300 after a breathtaking 2018 final, inspires thousands of young people – girls but not only – and continues to attract media attention … the proof on MNC !
- Interview Ana Carrasco : "Riding like a girl is a good thing!"
- Injured and package for 2020 : Ana Carrasco always keeps a smile
- World Supersport 300 : Ana Carrasco’s radio chills your spine
Ana Carrasco therefore retains her place within the Provec Kawasaki team, this Catalan team which also runs a certain Jonathan Rea in World Superbike … and led him to six world championship titles in a row at the helm of the ZX -10RR from factory !
The young woman who will blow out her 24 candles at the start of next season is therefore leaving for a World Superbike tour (WSSP 300 category, the equivalent of Moto3 in Grand Prix), after a solid 2019 season which saw her lose her world crown. but to win the bronze medal, and a more trying year 2020.
Like all, the "Pink Warrior" first had to face the coronavirus – or more precisely the first confinement – and feverishly wait for the competition to resume. Then in the middle of this not-so-funny season, when she was in fifth place overall with 99 points (33 lengths behind the future champion Buis), Ana fell in training. Very badly fallen…
Assessment of his violent fall in Estoril where the 2020 WorldSBK final took place: a fracture of the dorsal spine which required a very heavy intervention. Ana has just published a photo of her bruised back, screwed and stapled … Gloups.
Despite this, the n ° 11 (which she wore last year, the n ° 1 in 2019 and the n ° 2 in 2017/2018!) Keeps the handlebars of her Ninja 400 as well as the full confidence of the prestigious Spanish team. and the full support of Kawasaki who have won the driver’s and manufacturer’s titles over the past three seasons in the WSSP "300" class !
Official statements
Ana Carrasco, WSSP 300 champion in 2018
“2018 has been a very special year for me and in a way I feel like it was yesterday. Winning the WorldSSP300 World Championship has clearly changed my life forever. I have not only achieved one of my goals, but I have also become a symbol for other women who aspire to achieve their dreams. On the starting grid, I am a driver like the others, not a woman but an adversary. as such as I will be racing with the support of Provec and Kawasaki in 2021. Besides, my desire to win the championship a second time has been the fuel of my recent recovery. I want to thank not only Kawasaki and Provec, but also all our partners and sponsors who, even in this period of Covid and despite the injury, support this project ".
Guim Roda, director of the Provec Kawasaki team
“Ana and the Provec team both have unfinished business in the WSSP300 championship. She enjoys such support in Spain and around the world that, psychologically, it seems to give her a full lap second on the track. We have the machine, the expertise and most importantly the rider to make it a success in the coming season. It’s a project built around Ana, her efforts will serve the WorldSSP300 and ensure incredible media exposure for all categories and Kawasaki. , we therefore feel in the obligation to assure her a competitive project to continue to write history. She deserves this effort, as a pilot and as a person. It is certain that 2021 will be her year, again historic ".
Steve Guttridge, Kawasaki Racing Department Director
"Since the creation of this championship (in 2017, Editor’s note), Kawasaki has been the main actor and in 2020, we have kept the constructor, team and driver titles. The success of the Ninja 400 is only matched by the interest it arouses in Kawasaki dealerships around the world. For us, this strong bond between the competition and our customers is one of the things that makes this championship so attractive. For Kawasaki, Ana is a bit of a "Final part of the puzzle": She is a former world champion and world famous athlete. Her struggle to get back in shape is hallmark of her determination on the track. Kawasaki and Provec are both determined to play their part in his journey to a second world championship in 2021 ".
