Nitro Nori blows up everything in Monza !

WSBK - Nitro Nori blows up everything in Monza! -

Yesterday in Monza was held the 5th round of the SBK World Cup. However, the local Biaggi, the unbeaten Bayliss and the leader Toseland could not do anything: Nori the dynamite was unbeatable! In Supersport, on the other hand, the favorite won … Report and video.

From the Superpole event, Noriyuki Haga creates a surprise by beating Troy Bayliss by almost half a second! Alone to go under 1 ’45 by signing an incredible 1′ 44.941, Nitro Nori started the powder on Saturday afternoon and presented himself as the man to beat on Sunday !

Yet many of its competitors are seeking victory (or even victories, read) and the times posted by the rest of the field are far from being ridiculous. Thus Troy Bayliss, Max Biaggi and Troy Corser descend below the old track record, just like Toseland who leads the second row.

Behind the championship leader slips Karl Muggeridge, Regis Laconi and Yukio Kagayama and the third row is occupied by a majority of Italians: Michel Fabrizio, Roberto Rolfo, Josh Brookes (Australian) and Lorenzo Lanzi. Then Fonsi Nieto, Max Neukirchner, Ruben Xaus and Marco Borciani compose the 4th line.

In Supersport, Kenan Sofuoglu achieved his third pole position of the year ahead of his teammate Sebastien Charpentier. In the same half a second as the two Honda Ten Kate, Katsuaki Fujiwara and Broc Parkes get on the 1st row.

Gianluca Nannelli and his Ducati take second place ahead of Fabien Foret, Barry Veneman and Massimo Roccoli. They are followed on the 3rd row by Robbin Harms, David Salom, Gianluca Vizziello and Joan Lascorz.

The third French is Yoann Tiberio who is in 16th position. Two places behind him is Matthieu Lagrive while David Checa of Team GMT94 is 20th, Sebastien Gimbert 25th, Julien Enjolras 28th and Gregory Leblanc 32nd.

First Superbike race

Roberto Rolfo emerged from his 10th place and took the lead in the first corner to the cheers of the public! Behind him, Yukio Kagayama did not resist for long to James Toseland determined to take command of the race as quickly as possible..

On the second passage through the pit straight, Biaggi took 3rd place, soon imitated by Noriyuki Haga whose timid starts are well known. Laconi clings to 7th place, overtaken by Corser and put under pressure by Bayliss !

From this second lap, the Honda n ° 52 of Toseland passes in front of the n ° 44 of Rolfo and begins to take off in the space of a few turns. But very quickly, Haga gets rid of his friend Kagayama and then of Biaggi: the Japanese do not want to let the British escape !

In the following laps, however, the most active driver remains Troy Bayliss, who makes his way through the peloton: he passes Laconi then Kagayama and starts in pursuit of the Roman Emperor from the 5th lap because in the meantime, Troy Corser walked past Max.

In the last chicane Ascari, Haga takes the lead without Toseland being able to do anything. However, the pit straight allows James to climb back to Nori’s level and elbows with him – literally – as he tackles the first chicane. Obsessed with each other, the two pilots cross the chicane almost at a standstill to the delight of the spectators !

The battle between the two fanatics continues until the middle of the race: very incisive in the chicanes, Nitro Nori is slightly handicapped by his R1 at the exit of the parabolic, which allows James and his CBR to get back into the line. right !

Behind, the show is just as grandiose since Roberto Rolfo, in a very aggressive style, manages to keep Biaggi and Bayliss at bay! Corser must give back his hand: "I got scared when I left Lesmo", admits the Australian driver who will finish 5th.

On the 12th lap, Bayliss took full advantage of the suction phenomenon and doubled Biaggi in the middle of the straight! Bayliss therefore found himself in 4th place, more than 2 seconds from the podium and 3.5 seconds from Haga, who escaped alone in the lead. Troy Bayliss undefeated on his land since 2001 can he still return to the leader ?

Biaggi wants to make sure that no … In Lesmo, the Suzuki of the Italian climbs to the level of the Ducati of Bayliss but the following braking, the stability of the Italian seems to surpass that of the Japanese … In the stands, hearts swing between the twin and the four-time champion of the world !

In the next passage in front of the pits, Biaggi dislocates Bayliss and maintains an effective defensive interior trajectory when braking. At the end of this first chicane, Troy turns around to find that Corser is already far behind, more than 7 seconds behind !

Until now, the gaps between the members of the top three were gradually widening. But in the 13th loop, James Toseland is the victim of a pump stroke: he gives a full second to Noriyuki Haga and returns half a second to Roberto Rolfo…

The decline of the English is confirmed in the following lap so that Rolfo soon arrives in his wheel. The tifosis are in heaven since for his part, Max Biaggi has just set the new lap record of the discipline !

Unfortunately, Max fans are quickly disillusioned … "I will run after second place when the bike stiffens in the first chicane: I almost lost control but I managed to counter that and start again but having lost a handful of seconds", Max explained after the race..

Thus on the 15th lap, Haga leads ahead of Rolfo who has just passed Toseland, Bayliss, Biaggi, Corser, Kagayama, Laconi and Lanzi. Despite Rolfo’s disproportionate efforts reflected in the wheeling and other incessant movements of his Honda, Haga remains out of reach and prepares for a second victory this season..

Toseland is in disarray: "we bet on the medium tire and we lost", will regret James who turns two seconds slower in the last 5 laps than all the leading men !

It was in the penultimate lap that Bayliss dealt the final blow to the Briton and deprived him of a new podium, however not unworthy. Then Max Biaggi who evolves at the same pace as Haga doubles Toseland on the very last lap but is 1.5 seconds behind Bayliss so the podium.

Haga therefore quietly crosses the finish line followed by … Bayliss and Biaggi! "The first race was going so well for me, it just should have been a lap shorter !", concluded Roberto Rolfo, forced to give up after running out of fuel a few hundred meters from the finish. !

Toseland therefore fails at the foot of the podium and will put on harder tires for the second round! Corser and Kagayama will regret that the race did not last even a half-loop more to overtake Toseland. The disappointment is great at Kawasaki PSG-1 since neither Nieto nor Laconi cross the finish line.

Supersport Race

Specialist in gun starts, Craig Jones climbed from his 17th place on the grid at the level of the leading drivers when the first chicane arose. But carried away in his tracks, the Englishman shoots straight ahead and takes the lead in the race, taking a hell of a shortcut !

In order to avoid any penalty, however, Craig lets Broc Parkes, Gianluca Nannelli, Sebastien Charpentier, Robbin Harms and Kenan Sofuoglu pass in front of him: five men who quickly widen a gap with the rest of the pack..

In the parabolic, Sofuoglu made short work of Harms’ Honda and passed General Seb on the second lap. The Turkish turns a tone above everyone whatever the portion of the circuit: after getting rid of Nannelli in the parabolic, he plants Parkes a superb braking while sliding and seems to escape slowly in the lead…

But as always in Supersport, the race still has many surprises in store. As proof, Fabien Foret, who was thought to be lost in the middle of the peloton, is already starting to climb up the rankings: 9th on the 1st lap, he is 6th on the second !

Biting off the track on the way out Lesmo 1, Robbin Harms performs a highside of rare violence and hits the opposite safety rail of the runway … Despite landing on the tailbone, collision against the rail and rolling head first in the grass, the Englishman comes to his senses and runs to safety … Damned !

Moments later, it was Broc Parkes’ turn to give up, less painfully than Robbin however … "Sofuoglu passed me but I could see that he was not consistent so I hung on. I was starting to get into the rhythm when the bike came to a stop", growled the Yamaha rider.

Kenan Sofuoglu therefore finds himself alone in the lead in the 5th lap, but the second which separates him from Nannelli does not yet allow him to control the race as he had done two weeks ago in Assen … His teammate is him- also on the alert because the ZX-6R of Fabien Foret goes up and ends up pointing the end of its fairing in the straight line.

Behind, West, Fujiwara and Veneman fight in a pocket square, followed by Jones, Tiberio, Sanna, Boccolini, Roccoli and Lagrive! But at the halfway point, Anthony West shifts into high gear and transforms the three seconds behind him on the 7th lap, to a small tenth of a second at the 10th crossing of the finish line.

At the same time, Craig Jones then fell victim to his engine which sprayed Matthieu Lagrive’s CBR with oil! The two pilots retire, leaving Tiberio to go alone in 8th position, 5 seconds behind Veneman and 3 seconds ahead of Roccoli.

West finally took 4th place from Sebastien, whose premature tire wear prevented him from keeping pace with the best: "I lost grip after about ten laps, especially when exiting the parabolic", which leads to the longest straight line and seriously handicaps the two-time world champion.

Foret, for his part, continued his recovery on Nannelli, whom he joined on the 12th lap. All the attention is then focused on the fight for 9th place, opposing three Italians and a Spanish! Roccoli, Alfonsi, Salom and Sanna fight every braking, every chicane and every acceleration and their positions keep changing..

But it’s not just between them that the finish promises to be tight! Indeed, Foret who failed to get rid of Nannelli quickly was joined four laps from the end by Anthony West. The Australian passed the French driver in the chicane of the Roggia but Foret recovers his second place at the next chicane !

Foret, West and Nannelli tackle the penultimate braking of the pit line head-on and it is the French who are doing the best! Nannelli whips his Ducati as much as he can and West manages an R6 he just discovered this weekend: "I felt my tires were starting to wear seriously so I let them fight by planning one last attack", Anthony will explain later..

The three pilots start the last lap in the same half-second. But this time, West won the braking of the first chicane and retained the advantage until entering the last corner: the famous parabolic.

It is in the braking of this very last curve that the Kawa of Foret plunges under the Yam of West to widen slightly in the middle of the curve. But Fabien locks his position by coming out as close as possible to West who finds himself blocked…

Sofuoglu crossed the checkered flag 4 seconds ago but the public cheers the following three drivers as so many winners. Charpentier will not join the finish, he fell on the 14th lap … Veneman ranks 5th, Fujiwara 6th and Yoann Tiberio 7th! David Checa scored two points for 14th place while his teammate Sebastien Gimbert finished 17th, just ahead of Julien Enjolras 19th. Gregory Leblanc from Vazy Racing Team had to retire.

In the Championship, Sofuoglu continues his solo rider – fourth victory in a row! – and Foret consolidates its second position. Tiberio climbs to 15th place in the table while Charpentier falls to 17th.

Among manufacturers, it is obviously Honda which leads the dance (145 points) in front of Kawasaki (97), Yamaha (82), Suzuki (48) and Ducati (43).

Second Superbike race

Max Biaggi performed a very good takeoff but was quickly caught and then passed by Toseland, Laconi, Brookes, Corser and Rolfo. From the first sequences, Toseland prints a very impressive rhythm and stands out from Regis very well started.

The two Japanese friends Haga and Kagayama double in this first round the two Max – Biaggi and Neukirchner -. In the parabolic, Rolfo tries to make Corser inside but the Australian comes out stronger from the curve and hits the young Italian wolf.

In front, all the brands are represented except one: Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha and Suzuki are fighting for the first places without Ducati! Bayliss, the first driver of the Italian firm, is in 11th place and will have to show the will to hoist his mark at the forefront.

From the first laps, our poor Regis Laconi could not counter the attacks of his opponents. He quickly downgrades to 7th place as other riders are just starting to pick up the pace.

Rolfo and Haga in particular easily got rid of Corser then Laconi and set off in pursuit of Toseland who had a 1.5 second lead on the 4th lap. Biaggi moved up to 5th place, only a few lengths behind Troy Corser but the fastest on the track is still behind: it is Bayliss.

But on the 6th lap, Haga surpassed everyone and posted the fastest time in the race! It must be said that the Japanese are motivated: after winning his second victory of the season, Nitro Nori could well see himself obtaining the first double of the season !

Rolfo may not have managed to keep up with Haga in his flight but he remains several steps ahead of Troy Corser now joined by Max Biaggi. Troy Bayliss is 6th more than a second behind the Roman Emperor but the gap is narrowing.

Nevertheless, once again, Haga sets the best time in the race, even better than that recorded by Biaggi in the 1st round! At this rate, Noriyuki quickly settles under the pots of the Honda Ten Kate n ° 52. Baiggi meanwhile took advantage of a gap from Rolfo in the parabolic to grab 4th place.

At the end of the straight, while Max shifts to overtake Troy Corser, Roberto Rolfo shifts in turn to try to pass his compatriot! The three pilots are abreast for a short time then Biaggi falls back in front of Corser. Rolfo continues on his path and performs superb braking on the two multiple world champions !

Rolfo therefore came out of the chicane third in front of Biaggi, Corser and Bayliss who had just joined them. In the meantime, Haga has taken the lead but Toseland is looking to stay in touch as long as he can. In Ascari Biaggi double Rolfo and despite the slippage of the Suz in the parabolic, manages to keep the lead of the group of pursuers at the start of the 8th lap.

The braking at the end of the line gives rise to a magnificent redistribution of the cards: Corser jumps from 5th place to third step of the podium by slipping outside Biaggi who is also overwhelmed inside by Rolfo! Fortunately for Max, Troy Bayliss is a little too far to attack him in this same braking…

In the next chicane of the Roggia, Rolfo gets the best of Corser soon to be overtaken by Biaggi. On the 10th lap, the Australian tried a new attack but remained 5th just ahead of Bayliss. In the 11th round, the Italians split slightly from the Australians and Haga moved away from Toseland.

But Troy Bayliss refuses to let the two Italians escape and preferred that an Italian – his Ducati – take place on the podium! The kangaroo n ° 21 therefore dislocates the crocodile n ° 11 at the exit of the parabolic and launches out in pursuit of the Honda and the Suzuki.

Bayliss made up almost all his delay – a good half a second – on the only braking at the end of the straight line and threatens Rolfo. The latter considers it preferable to pass in front of Biaggi, which he does at the entrance of the parabolic. But taking advantage of the asp in the straight line, Max returned to n ° 44.

Corser is dropped and the battle will only oppose Biaggi, Rolfo and Bayliss. Unless James Toseland sees his lap times drop again at the end of the race? Biaggi raises his tone and takes almost half a second to English in the 12th lap.

The hunt for Toseland is officially declared open and Max leads the pack! In the following four laps, the Roman Emperor takes a second to the British and moves away slightly from Rolfo and Bayliss.

On the penultimate lap, Troy Bayliss overtook Roberto Rolfo and climbed back on Biaggi who only had eyes for Toseland: when braking the parabolic, Max was surprised by Troy who took third place! James knows his enemies are nearby and sets off to storm the home stretch with a lead of 3 tenths of a second…

Max climbs up to the level of Bayliss’ Ducati which guides slightly in the straight line! Bayliss did not give up the throttle, however, but had to let Biaggi pass, placed further inside at the entrance to the first chicane. Toseland is a few meters in front … Rolfo a few meters behind !

The order Toseland, Biaggi, Bayliss, Rolfo is preserved in the Curva Grande, the chicane of Roggia, double right Lesmo, the slight left Serraglio and it’s only in Ascari that Biaggi goes on the attack.

Passed second under braking, Max emerges very strongly from this chicane … a little too much even since he hits a vibrator! His Suz vibrated violently and the Toseland – Bayliss duo took the opportunity to overtake him on acceleration. The guiding once passed, Biaggi finds himself neck and neck with Rolfo left in ambush. The parabolic will be decisive !

Bayliss applies his braking too much on the angle and begins to feel the front of his 999 slip away: he therefore gives up a little of the front brake, deviates from the trajectory and sees Toseland slip under his fairing! The Englishman has his chance to revenge Assen there and does not let it pass !

Behind them, Biaggi notices that contact with Bayliss’ Ducati at the exit of the preceding bend partially deprived him of his clutch and left footrest! Destabilized, Max misses his last turn, "lack of going highside", he will explain and must be satisfied with a 5th place.

Obviously, the happiest rider is undoubtedly Noriyuki Haga … Superpole, fastest time in the race and two victories: he signs a perfect weekend on the handlebars of his R1 and even reaches second place in the provisional classification.

James Toseland remains championship leader with 229 points but the scores of Haga (194) and Biaggi (191) remain close. After Nitro Nori, Bayliss scored the highest number of points this weekend and now totals 164. As for Laconi, he takes advantage of Nieto’s double retirement to become 1st Kawasaki rider.

In the constructors’ championship, Honda is still in the lead with 238 points while Yamaha (217) passes Ducati (209), Suzuki (191) and Kawasaki (77).

Next meeting with the crazy handlebars: May 27 at Silverstone! Stay connected…
