WSBK - Private practice in Misano: the Superbike never stops turning! - Private tests for - almost - everyone

The second Superbike race at Donington Park was just over as the main teams headed for the Misano circuit, where tests were scheduled this week for the next WSBK event.. Report and statements.

Private tests for – almost – everyone

The World Superbike never stops spinning! The Proseco was barely drying on the podium when the main teams left the Midlands for the Adriatic coast. And there’s no question of settling down on a deckchair with your toes in a fan, or twiddling your thumbs while sipping a glass of Spritz…

The pilots of the Aprilia Iodaracing, Ducati Aruba, Honda WSBK and Yamaha Pata teams put on their leather on Wednesday to follow the laps on the Misano circuit, which will host the June 17-19.

On their RSV4s, Alex de Angelis and Lorenzo Savadori completed 65 and 63 laps respectively and would have set encouraging times. The Italian team, however, preferred to keep their lap times confidential. Would they have communicated them if either of them had broken the track record ?

As a reminder, "Super Sykes" took advantage of the last edition of to establish a new reference time: 1’34.214 in. The next day, Davide Giugliano had turned a suspicion faster than the winner – Sykes, again him – in .

The Italian n ° 34 posted an excellent 1’34.855 against 1 ‘34.862 for the English! In the end, the future champion Jonathan Rea had the last word, completing the 4064 meters of the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli (located at 10 rue Daijiro Kato, double "sic") in 1’34.720 in …

The only team to have formalized the times of its drivers during tests at Misano, Ducati is also the only one to have worked twice as hard: Chaz Davies and Davide Giugliano started racing on Tuesday, completing 105 and 108 laps respectively in two days..

Timed in his fastest lap in 1’35.485, "Chazie" is ahead of his teammate by nothing (1’35.510 for Davide) who was on a par with Sykes last year. Does it bode well for the next Italian meeting? The Kawasaki are not present during these tests, it is impossible to conclude…

The Bologna Reds have mainly worked on the chassis of their official Panigales, on the electronics (Magneti Marelli, whose "hardware" is now shared by all Superbikes) and on performance in worn tires. Note also that Davide tested the rear thumb brake … and it seems that he "liked" it (read the statements of all the pilots on the next page).

The only downside for the Ducati riders: the rain on Wednesday from 3 p.m. prevented them from carrying out their race simulation. Too bad, Davies and Giugliano all the same left the circuit satisfied and confident (read the statements of all the drivers on the next page).

On the Honda side, Nicky Hayden and Michael van den Mark each completed 58 laps on Wednesday. They played with their cycle part to improve grip and tested several gearbox options in order to start as hard as possible on Friday June 17 in the morning … and finish as high as possible on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 after- midday !

Finally at Yamaha, Alex Lowes was back on the handlebars of his R1 n ° 22. Removed from "his" races at Donington by the medical staff, the English driver drove all day at Misano, taking advantage of his layout a little less traumatic for his collarbone than Donington Park and his last section very "stop and go".

Proof that the English champion (2013) is on the mend: he completed more laps on Wednesday than his little comrades: 60 laps during which he was able to work on the electronics of his Yam ‘- traction control management, in particular -, study new fork settings and test chassis components.

His teammate, our compatriot Sylvain Guintoli, was unfortunately not present: his foot still in plaster, the n ° 50 gave way to Niccolo Canepa. As for the replacement for "Guinters" last weekend, Cameron Beaubier, he returned to the United States..

What about Kawasaki? Unlike its main rivals, the KRT did not select Misano as its test track but Jerez. The Ninjas therefore raced on the Spanish circuit yesterday and the day before yesterday. Review to follow on MNC: the World Superbike never stops turning !
