Rolfo and Iddon, official MV Agusta pilots
The MV Agusta Parkingo team has just revealed the names of its two future drivers who will fight next year in the World Supersport: an old Italian acquaintance, Roberto Rolfo, and a young English rookie, Christian Iddon ! And Luca Scassa then ?
Contrary to what the authorized circles predicted (MNC is one of them, read), Luca Scassa was not selected to represent the brand of Varese on the occasion of his comeback in competition.
Yet it was the Italian, nicknamed "The Rocker", who won the last title (in Italian Superbike 2008) for MV Agusta at the controls of an F4 312 R, 35 years after the last title (this time world) obtained by Giacomo Agostini in Grand Prix 500 cc…
"Regarding our choice apparently "surprising", Parkingo believes more in experience and in the desire to do well than in a simple publicity stunt", argues the Italian team.
The choice of Giuliano Rovelli therefore fell on a complementary duo composed, as we have understood, of a driver with the supplied CV and a "kinenveu" driver: either the former Grand-Prix driver Roberto Rolfo and the talented "super biker" Christian Iddon !
We hardly introduce Roberto, a rider born in Turin in 1980 whose pinnacle in motorcycle racing remains his second place in the GP 250 World Championship on Honda in 2003. In the shadow of Toseland during his second season in World Superbike (2007), n ° 44 has since failed to regain the outposts.
He still has a Moto2 victory in 2010 (Malaysian GP), and above all has always managed to continue to ride at a high level. Rolfo is therefore betting big on next season: "I am very motivated and I will give myself 100% to achieve our goals and rise to the top of the category".
Roberto will be accompanied by a driver who is much less known but no less talented: Christian Iddon. This Englishman, who will turn 28 on January 7, grew up in the paddocks – his father rode in the European 500 championship – and quite naturally made his first laps in cross-country 50, at the age of 6..
Supermoto expert, the n ° 21 was crowned in Great Britain in this discipline four times between 2005 and 2009 on Aprilia and KTM. But in addition to his official Supermot commitments, Iddon has allowed himself a few outings on major circuits…
This is how the n ° 21 got noticed in 2008 riding a Tuono, winning each of the "Streetfighter" races he had registered for! The following year, his first races at the controls of an RC8R, finally persuaded him: he switched to "road racing"…
Sixth in the British Supersport Championship in 2011 driving a Daytona – what else? -, Christian Iddon finished fourth last year within the same Triumph Oxford TAG team, filling his purse with nine more podiums and his first three victories.
Next year, Christian will try to improve on an Italian 3-cylinder: "signing a contract with Giuliano and the Parkingo team is the fulfillment of a dream, a big change in my career !", rejoices the pilot across the Channel.
"I’m going to have to learn eleven circuits and concentrate as much as possible, but racing with the best will be very exciting, estimates the one who had made two freelance posts in WSSP 2010 on a Honda CBR600RR (12th at the Nurburgring and 17th at Silverstone).
"In any case, we have a good package to achieve great results with this team", realize this
