Videos, statements and analysis of the SBK in Misano
The sixth round of the World SBK 2011 took place yesterday in Misano. To complete our live reports, here are the statements of the SBK riders, our analyzes and the video summaries of the Superbike races..
Analysis of the World Superbike in Misano
Without the soggy track on Saturday afternoon which deprived him – along with Sykes – of a fifth pole position this year, it’s a safe bet that Carlos Checa would have had a perfect second weekend after that experienced at Miller Motorsport Park. The Spaniard leaves Misano with 50 points from the double, the two best times in the race and the track record !
El Torro couldn’t believe it himself: he expected more resistance from other handlebar freaks! Above the rest, Checa has only known one rival this weekend: Max Biaggi. But unlike Assen where the suspense lasted until the last laps, Carlos easily won both rounds of San Marino..
The n ° 7 and his Team Ducati Althea were able to juggle perfectly with the various climbs of Pirelli and the course of the races: 24 laps for the first, only 14 for the second interrupted by the fall of Melandri – the first part ultimately only serving ” to establish a new starting grid… – !
Imperial, Checa pocketed his third double of the season and flew to the championship: he totaled 245 points, 72 more than Max Biaggi and 95 more than Melandri. The rest of the field is already far: Laverty 4th, has half the number of points than the leader (123)…
But beware, because we remember that in 2009 another Ducati rider was in a similar situation: at the end of a memorable sixth event at Kyalami (memorable in more than one way, read), Haga benefited from a lead of 85 points over teammate Fabrizio and 88 points over Yamaha rookie Ben Spies … titled at the end of this year !
Something to give hope to the Yamaha rookie – hold on – Marco Melandri, right ?! The main interested party certainly does not bother with this kind of journalistic parallel…
Third in the first round in Misano, the n ° 33 couldn’t stand the fact of not being able to join the leading men: his two former MotoGP friends! Frustrated by this inability, Marco even made a mistake in the second heat, causing the race to be interrupted..
His young teammate, fresh off the Supersport but already scoring a double at Monza, had a comparable Sunday: fifth in the first round, he lost the front in the second part of the second round but managed to join the finish, scoring three small points.
The incredible Spies also had uneven weekends during his only season in the WSBK … But in equal number of events, the American had already garnered seven podiums including five victories. Not obvious that Marco or Eugene manage to repeat the feat of Big Ben…
The two R1 boys are not the only ones to have had uneven results this weekend: Tom Sykes for example, touched the excellence in Superpole then bordered on the feat in the first round before suffering a big disappointment in the second round…
No.66 once again proved their keen sense of balance, taking advantage of a soggy track on Saturday afternoon – and sharp "made in Akashi" electronics? – to sign the first pole position of the all new Kawasaki Ninja.
On the dry this time, the Ninja of the Across the Round clinched a brilliant 4th place in the first race on Sunday, although a little "distant": Tom crossed the line 18 seconds after Checa, but only a small second after Melandri … Or how to be content with a half-full glass !
The glass of the English Green was however completely empty at the end of the second round, and this despite the two points collected after his fall. In the general classification, no Kawa ‘driver has yet appeared in the Top 10: Sykes is in 13th place with 65 points scored. Note that Vermeulen entered the Top10 during the sprint of the second race. The Australian is repairing himself, little by little…
Sunday had a bittersweet taste for Noriyuki Haga as well, who had a fault in the first run before returning to the podium for the first time since last year. For this, the Japanese pilot had to show cold blood and experience in order to contain the attacks of the young man in great shape at the moment: Ayrton Badovini !
Since Monza, the champion of Superstock 1000 feels growing wings and continues to stand out. The manufacturer BMW will have, the first, noted that the S1000RR the best classified this weekend was none other than that flocked of the n ° 86…
Troy Corser and Leon Haslam broken, James Toseland forfeit and replaced, Badovini played his role of joker perfectly: eighth then fourth in Misano, the Italian scored big points and equaled the score of our compatriot Sylvain Guintoli (72 points). Author of a podium in Miller, Sylvain benefits from the 10th place, but he will have to be wary of Ayrton in the future.
However, our n ° 50 does not need Site warnings, nor even to observe the provisional classification to learn about Badovini’s rise in speed: the two pilots fought a superb battle on the track during the first handle !
Usually delighted to have to fight against his little comrades, Sylvain is not satisfied this time by his two hectic races, which resulted in two 7th places. Giving on average one second per lap to his colleague Ducati Checa, the Frenchie wanted to fight at the forefront as he had done in the United States !
Our favorite Guintoli can however be consoled by observing the results of his box neighbor: slower than Sylvain, Jakub Smrz did not score any points on Sunday and has only eleven lengths ahead of his teammate….
In addition, Jonathan Rea having already withdrawn from the Aragon event, Syl ‘and Kuba see a boulevard opening up in front of them towards 7th place in the general classification. Which of the two will reach this goal next Sunday? Case to follow on Site of course !
Our second rider entered in the 2011 World Superbike, Maxime Berger, continues to alternate the good and the disappointing: tenth of the first round, Max could claim to improve his best result in WSBK but his 1098R still played tricks on him..
Cautiously returned to the pits at the end of the 8th lap of the second part of the second heat – we had to follow! -, n ° 121 is currently in 18th place in the championship with 18 points. Let’s hope that the circuit which is both technical and fast in Aragon will not tire his mount too much in a week: the "young" Max proved on Sunday that he had more than the level required to shine in Superbike !
Apart from Checa, the only other driver to have "insured" this weekend is obviously Max Biaggi. Like the leader of the 2011 championship, the reigning world champion is in his third double: unfortunately for the "old" Max, it is pairs of 2nd places and not Aces…
Like privateer Corser, the Pirate of the Adriatic struggled to walk on Sunday because of an injury: to the foot for the Italian, to the hip for the Australian. In good number one, Biaggi grit his teeth and embarked on both races without ulterior motives, as his little excursion off the track in the second round proved. !
Powerless against "Super" Checa, "Mad" Max collects 40 additional points and takes second place from "Macho" Melandri. The next event in Aragon will be the seventh in the championship and will mark the passage in the second half of the season.
Will Max Biaggi manage to unlock his victory counter and finally regain points from his public enemy n ° 7? Case to follow on MNC…
Finally, impossible not to underline – bold and italicize! – Fabien Foret’s extraordinary performance in Mondial Supersport! Badly started as usual, our national No. 99 had a daunting race, going twice to dominate Lowes, Salom and the wild card Dionisi also bluffing !
Poor Fabien was enraged when he got out of his CBR600RR, and we can easily imagine that it was the same a few minutes earlier in the middle of the race, as he saw Broc Parkes content himself with winding to take off Kawasaki’s first victory this season..
Fourth in the championship with 56 points, the driver Ten Kate has not mortgaged his title chances against Parkes (85 pts), Davies (80) or Scassa (70). By maintaining this formidable momentum in Aragon, and by starting a little better (!), It is hard to see Foret not competing for victory with his rivals. Answer next Sunday, on Site !
