Motorcycle license - Details of the new mandatory training for the 125 - What you will need to master before you can drive a 125 with two years of license B

In a decree of November 27 published in the Official Journal this morning, the Ministry of Transport specifies the terms of compulsory training for driving the 125 by holders of the B license. Update with Gerard Acourt, President of ECF.

What you will need to master before you can drive a 125 with a two-year B license

The ministry of – take your breath! – ecology, energy, sustainable development and land use planning – blow it away! -, formerly "transport", just published this morning in Official newspaper the terms of compulsory training for motorists (holders of the B license) who would like to venture on the handlebars of a 125.

The decree of November 27, 2008, "on the obligation of practical training for driving light motorcycles by holders of category B driving license", recalls in fact that"drivers who have held a category B driving license for at least two years obtained from 1 January 2007 must undergo a three-hour practical training in order to be authorized to drive, on national territory, a light motorcycle falling under the sub -category A1"(read).

This compulsory training, which can be completed within one month before the anniversary date of the two years of obtaining the B permit, must be carried out "on a light motorcycle with a manual gearbox"and"must be provided by a teacher holding a valid teaching license for category A and A1, in an establishment or an association approved by the prefect for training in driving motorcycles", specifies the decree.

An evaluation of the implementation of this training will be carried out "within three months of the date of publication of this order", ie March 4, 2009 at the latest. To be continued … Stay connected !

In the meantime, the least that can be said is that if government targets are met by training organizations, 125 riders will be at least as comfortable on their mounts as motorcycle license holders. !

Because "for each of the following objectives, the trainer should stress the importance of risk factors, information gathering and communication, respect for the rule and respect for others", explains the decree before listing the details of the skills that must be acquired at the end of the three hours of training: out of traffic, the driver must know"starting and stopping, upshifting and downshifting, slow and normal braking, tilting to turn and turning, balance at slow and normal speed with and without a passenger, in a straight line and in turns", and finally "apply emergency braking"

Finally in circulation (both "in" and "outside" built-up areas), the driver must, at the end of the training, know "look for useful clues, adapt your speed to situations, choose the lane, cross the different types of intersections and change direction, overtake safely"and naturally"negotiate a turn".

As president of the ECF driving schools, Gerard Acourt has of course always declared himself in favor of training for drivers of 125. "This training should not slow down the market because it is inexpensive and not very restrictive. We can even imagine that since access to the 125 is better organized, this will reassure motorists", told us two years ago the boss of the 1180 training centers including 600 agencies, which in 2005 had a turnover of 120 million euros (read).
