And that is exactly what my analysis of the price development of used machines from page 10 is all about. Last year, I spent a lot of time determining and splitting up the second-hand prices of various motorcycles. I love something like that, in that respect I would be called a nerd.

My colleagues do the same when they take a close look at individual machines and model families in the MOTORRAD used advice service. Because we (and hopefully also the reader) are interested in the current prices at which, for example, the mega bestseller BMW R 1200 GS can be obtained as a second-hand water boxer. And what else to look out for.

For less present motorcycles such as Ducati Hypermotard, Honda Pan European or the rare Victory Hammer, different market laws apply. In order to gain access to important facts, we sometimes go deep into the archive, spend hours on the phone with our contacts at workshops and dealers, and rummage through Internet platforms. We editors like to bury ourselves at our desks for stories like this.

But at some point the office air is too stuffy for even the biggest research nerd. Because first and foremost, we love: motorcycling. And that is only possible outside. As a result, we went to the machines for selected second-hand consultations in order to check specific offers from commercial and private sellers on site. Under the tongue-in-cheek term “used uncles” we went on a bargain hunt or inspected store keepers. Facts and figures, all well and good – but there are exciting and curious stories out there on the second-hand market that, after the visit, make many offers appear in a different light …
