Episode # 06 – This is how MOTORRAD tests products

We have always tested and compared motorcycles. But much more often completely different new acquisitions are necessary. A new helmet, an airy textile jacket, new tires or an extension of the tool set. That is why there are short and more extensive product tests in almost every issue of MOTORRAD. One of the first comparative product tests in MOTORRAD was the big helmet test in 1977, one year after the introduction of mandatory helmets. But how is a product test actually created? Why do we test products? When will the airbag test finally come? Aren’t all the test victories bought anyway? And where is this secret passport in the south of France that MOTORRAD has been using as an open-air laboratory for years? In this episode, the service editors Mona Pekarek, Tobias Beyl and Ferdinand Heinrich dedicate themselves to the comparative product test. It quickly becomes clear: every test is different, every test is complex and often the end justifies the means. Regardless of whether it is about cheap hand washing pastes, chain sprays, tools, tires or textile combinations for 1,000 euros.
