MV-Agusta F4 1000 R Corsa Corta 2012

When MV-Agusta developed the F4 1000 RR Corsa Corta, was the unconfessed goal of developing the world’s most powerful sports car, slapping the Japanese on their own turf? No doubt a little, while adding a refinement and a nobility with the strong scent of Italian exclusivity: beautiful, racy, very expensive.
But MV’s policy has changed a lot recently, and like the Brutale 920 and 1090 R, the factory wants its products to become more accessible, even if it means losing some high pedigree components..

This new F4, closely derived from the RR, is torn between two philosophies: from sport to the extreme and offering itself to a large number of enthusiasts. She chose to reconcile the two by sacrificing a few slices of prestige. So, no Ohlins suspensions, adjustable column angle (it’s set at 23.5 °) or ultra-light wheels – By losing an R, it also loses top gear. Is it really serious? It’s up to you to judge, knowing that the chassis retains the essentials and shows many competitors. They can hardly boast of having a 50mm diameter inverted fork, one-piece Brembo brake calipers, a single-sided swingarm weighing only 5 kilos, a very rigid tubular steel trellis frame, and a silhouette that is enough. to see to provoke a stiff neck.

In terms of engines, this R means that more people have been added to the team. The 4 cylinder Corsa Corta (short stroke) is the same as that of F4 RR. A block largely redesigned compared to the base F4, displaying more super-square interior ribs. A bore increased to 79mm for a stroke reduced to 50.9mm, this gives you a boiler that has dynamite in the combustion chambers while allowing itself to keep a reasonable linear piston speed. With 9 more horses than the F4, it allows the diva to join the trio of the most powerful hypersport by announcing more than 195 horses at 13,000 rpm. Enough to stare at the BMW S 1000 RR and tickle the Kawasaki ZX-10R … and laughing to death reading the specifications of the R1 and CBR 1000. The guts and the equipment are flattering: variable intake, anti-drip system , anti-slip and two engine maps selectable on the handlebars. But as a good brother respectful of the one who gave him a lot, the R gives 6 horsepower and 400 rpm maximum to the RR. Prestige obliges.

Very powerful but not inaccessible, the F4 1000 R positions itself right between the sporty F4 (which it replaces in the catalog) and the extreme F4 RR. Its price barely higher than the standard version, its engine designed to yell and spit out everything it has in the towers, its timeless silhouette and its sharp chassis destined for fiery sport, very close to violence. The Varese plant has even pushed the vice to include in it enough to take a passenger; as if he could imagine for even a second that he was going to be welcome on board…
