The small Tuono is powered by a twin inline, which is almost half the V4 from the 1100 Tuono.

The IMU unit is optionally available, however, then the Tuono 660 also has the features that depend on the angle.

Visually, the sisters differ only minimally. The lining of the Tuono is cut off on the radiator and does not extend that far over the cylinder head.

Even without the lean angle-dependent systems, the new Tuono 660 comes with a number of driver assistance systems.

New Aprilia Tuono 660
Aprilia Tuono 660 (2021)
Little thunderstorm from Aprilia
What has worked very well for years with the brilliant V-engines, Aprilia is now continuing with the new in-line twin with 660 cubic meters: the Aprilia RS 660 becomes the new Tuono 660 with just a few changes.

02/16/2021
The sparrows have long whistled from the rooftops: A new Tuono is coming from Aprilia based on the recently introduced super sports car RS 660. Now Aprilia is making it official and is also announcing a price for Germany: 10,550 euros including ancillary costs.
Price not all inclusive
A good 500 euros less than that fully wired RS 660 the Tuono will cost and be available from February. Fortunately, you don’t get much less power. The new Tuono will have just five PS less than the 100 PS strong RS at 10,000 tours and can therefore be throttled to 48 PS in compliance with A2. As with the RS 660, the torque will be around 8,500 revolutions at a good 68 Nm, which provides a little more punch thanks to the slightly shorter secondary gear ratio, but should cost a bit of top speed. For the RS 660, this is a good 200 km / h. Aprilia does without the cornering ABS and cornering lights of the RS as standard equipment in the Tuono 660. These features are available for a surcharge. Which is noticeable with the small price difference and has a bitter taste. The remainder of the RS aPRC technology package will be adapted according to the option; the following are standard equipment on board:
- adjustable traction control
- Wheelie control
- Cruise control
- variable engine brake

The new TFT display gives you control over the Tuono’s five different driving modes.
Supersport vs. naked bike
It has always been in the DNA of the Tuono models from Aprilia that they stay as close as possible to the Supersport sisters technically and optically. Superbike handlebars and a bikini fairing with a short lens were the main changes here. And that is also the case with the Tuono 660, in addition to a slightly modified chassis architecture. Whereby even the fairing is only separated from the engine spoiler by a short cut below the radiator and does not cover the entire cylinder head area as with the RS 660.

Values remain almost the same
The technical relationship of the dizygotic twins is also clearly evident in the usual key data of the Tuono. Aprilia also gives them 183 kilograms ready to drive, which should also mean 200 kilograms payload. Of course, the Tuono 660 is also Euro 5-compliant and a consumption of 4.9 liters per 100 kilometers can also be assumed. For the Tuono there will probably be a quickshifter with blipper, which is subject to a surcharge. Aprilia now gives the final performance data with 95 hp at 10,500 tours, the torque of 67 Nm reaches the maximum at 8,500 tours, even if 80% of this is already present from 4,000 rpm. Alternatively, the Tuono can be ordered directly as a 35 KW variant for the A2 driving license. 95 hp means five less than the RS 660. The other differences are minimal: with 110 millimeters of spring travel, the Tuono fork has ten less than the RS 660, and it can only be adjusted by preload and rebound. The remaining geometry data does not differ, and the ready-to-drive weight is also the same as that of the RS660 at 183 kilograms. Interesting in terms of tires: Aprilia specifies the big-size 180/60 ZR 17 for Tuono and RS660 as an alternative to the 180/55 ZR 17. In front a 120/70 ZR 17. How the buyer can choose is unknown, the entry in the registration certificate 1 should also be interesting, because the TuV has been keeping a keen eye on changed dimensions since 2020. Also interesting: Pirelli are currently the only ones to offer such dimensions with street legal approval.
Aprilia
The twin was taken over from the RS 660, has 659 cubic meters, 95 hp, 67 Nm and a 270 degree crank pin offset.
Other colors for the Tuono 660
The Tuono 660 is available in three color variants: Black Concept, Gray Iridium and Gold Acid.
Conclusion
Result: clearly Tuono, clearly desirable. The little Aprilia is likely to be the hottest and lightest mid-range naked bike of the new season and we are eagerly awaiting the first ride. In terms of price, Aprilia goes well beyond the range: Less performance in the motor, less security in the electronics and that for almost the same price.
