Series sounds like Vau

The in-line twin cylinder of the F 850 GS and F 750 GS is a completely new design with interesting technology. The new engine will be built in China.

Who invented it? Bavaria. Because the 853 cm³ in-line two-cylinder (bore / stroke: 84 x 77 mm) was developed, which BMW expressly emphasizes, in Munich. But it is built, which you only find out when explicitly requested, at Loncin in China, which is where the single-cylinder G 650 models came from.

About the technology: BMW has said goodbye to the compensating conrod of the previous parallel twin of the F 800 GS, which was presented as a novelty in 2007. Instead, the new drive has from F 750 GS and F 850 GS two balance shafts, which are placed in front of and behind the crankshaft, are driven by a spur gear and are intended to minimize vibrations.

BMW F 850 R and F 850 GT are likely

The two connecting rods of the new BMW two-cylinder are positioned on the crankshaft with a crank pin offset of 90 degrees. At the same time, the ignition takes place at a distance of 270 or 450 degrees, which corresponds exactly to the ignition sequence of a 90-degree Vau twin-engine and, of course, should sound like that.

In the BMW F 850 GS, the more powerful of the two new F models, the new engine develops 95 hp (70 kW) at 8250 rpm. It reaches its maximum torque of 92 Newton meters at 6250 rpm. The F 750 GS and F 850 GS mark the start of a new BMW two-cylinder series with the new engine. Nothing is official yet, but BMW will certainly add more models powered by the new twin, such as the naked bike F 850 R or the touring version F 850 GT.
