KTM started at the end of May, the introduction of the new 2016 motocross and enduro models is ending with all the other major manufacturers (Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha). MNC takes the opportunity to draw up a map of the forces involved.

2016 Honda CRF250R and CRF450R

No upheavals on the 2016 cross range of the winged crest, which retains the same livery as the previous vintage. The change common to the 250 and 450 is the 5 mm lengthening of their air fork, in order to improve its progressiveness and the balance of the bike..

At the rear, new settings are released, as well as an optimized connecting rod on the 450. Engine side, the "4 and a half" does not know any change, unlike its little sister deeply reworked to gain pep.

Its 4-stroke single cylinder features a new piston / connecting rod assembly, titanium exhaust valves, harder valve springs – to accommodate the higher compression ratio – and a new camshaft..

The air intake is also modified, as well as the exhaust and the injection mapping. Finally, to ensure good cooling of this boosted engine, enlarged radiators have been installed..

The 2016 Honda CRFs will be available in September 2015 in the at prices not communicated.

Kawasaki KX450F 2016

The first Japanese manufacturer to unveil a new motocross bike in 2016, Kawasaki has set out to lighten its KX450F ("-3.4 kg", or 108.7 kg all full) and make it easier. The engine receives modifications to the level of intake, exhaust valves and cylinder head. The injection is optimized, as are the three power curves as well as the starting aid.

Lighter by "400 g", the frame also becomes narrower, with 6 mm gained between each beam. The rear loop is reinforced, the Showa SFF air fork receives new seals and the mono-shock absorber new links..

The front-rear settings are naturally revised, in favor of a certain form of comfort (less rigid fork tubes and slightly softer rear spring).

As an option, an electronic injection calibration kit is now offered to the most demanding, making it possible to modify the behavior of the motorcycle according to the terrain but also to analyze various engine parameters..

Its price and date of availability in the have not yet been communicated..

2016 KTM SX and SXF

As every year, KTM was the first to unsheathe its novelties, starting with its cross range. The Austrian manufacturer did not go with the back of the spoon for 2016, as a new chassis announced more compact and more torsionally rigid was developed..

The suspensions evolve considerably thanks to the arrival of a new WP air fork (lighter by 1.4 kg than the previous one with springs), while important details on the ground have been refined: footrest and gear selector. redesigned speed, for example, or a new Neken handlebars.

On the mechanical side, all motorcycles gain weight and compactness thanks in particular to redesigned casings.

Completely redesigned, the 125 and 150 SX benefit, among other things, from redesigned cylinders and valves (not the 250), while the 4-strokes receive faster electronic injection management, a revised throttle body and a fuel system. start-up aid, equipment that has become essential in a few years.

2016 KTM EXC and EXC-F

No huge changes, however, concerning the KTM enduro 2 and 4-stroke range: the EXC and EXC-F evolve only in detail, with in particular a steel frame reinforced with chrome molybdenum slightly modified to improve handling.

Mechanically identical to the previous vintage, the range however introduces a new WP fork, redesigned fork legs and a smaller (and lighter) front wheel axle..

Aesthetically, there is a more important touch of orange, in particular at the level of the headlight plate and the crown, the arrival of a new "Dalla Valle" saddle as on the Six Days and Factory Edition and the triple trees. now black.

Suzuki RM-Z250 2016

"Motocross ready to win on all terrains". This is how Suzuki describes the 2016 vintage of its RM-Z250. If aesthetically, the yellow all-terrain vehicle seems similar to that of 2014, inside many changes are to be noted. Starting with its engine: all the parts in yellow are new on the sticker below (80 in all) !

In detail, we can mention in particular the new surface treatment applied to the piston, the redesigned segments, the lightened crankshaft to reduce the engine braking or even the modified camshafts to improve the range of use..

In addition, the intake valves are redesigned to increase the compression ratio, which goes from 13.5 to 13.75 to 1.

The injection and the exhaust are also optimized, as the oil lubrication. Finally, the starting aid system appeared in 2014 on the 450 is now generalized on the 250 cc.

Side cycle part, the frame is stiffened – especially at the level of the steering column, longer – and its weight is lowered by "2.5%". The Showa SFF fork gives way to a 48mm Kayaba PSF 2, air operated. This new model would save a kilo, in addition to offering slow and fast trigger settings (only one speed on SFF).

Same thing at the rear, where the KYB mono-shock offers more adjustment possibilities than the previous Showa. In terms of braking, a redesigned caliper would make it possible to grab "10%" of weight, which helps to keep the total dry weight at 106 kg. Finally, Dunlop Geomax MX51 tires give way – logically – to Geomax MX52.

The price and availability in the are not yet communicated.

Yamaha YZ250F and YZ450F 2016

The new 2016 YZ250F receives some mechanical upgrades (flat head piston, tweaked crankshaft and connecting rod, improved clutch, tweaked injection), tweaked suspension settings, new brake pads and a 10mm larger front disc (270mm versus 260mm) ).

A more in-depth review, the 2016 YZ450F notably releases an LCS (Launch Control System) start aid system, which allows you to set off on full throttle without skating or turning around as soon as the grid is lowered. It is automatically deactivated as soon as the 3rd is switched on.

The reverse-cylinder 4-stroke single-cylinder (forward intake, rear exhaust) also receives redesigned camshafts and valve springs, as well as optimized timing to improve low and mid-range. As on the 250, the clutch is revised thanks to a new nut and a firmer spring, while the Yamaha Power Tune (optional) allows intervention on the injection to adapt it to the conditions..

At the cycle part, the 450 cc receives a 12 mm wider swingarm axle and reinforced engine mounts. Objective: to increase the lateral rigidity of the aluminum frame. The footrests are also lowered by 5mm, both to improve comfort and lower the rider’s center of gravity.

Finally, the air / oil fork is attached to new triple trees which allow the offset to be increased by 3 mm, ie 25 mm on the new 2016 model. Compression and rebound have been revised at the front in favor of efficiency but also of comfort.

Same search for compromise at the rear, notably via the appearance of a lower calibration spring (56 Nm against 58 in 2015). As on the 250 cc, the brake pads are new and the diameter of the front disc goes from 260 to 270 mm.

Note that to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its motorcycle activity, Yamaha is launching a limited series of YZ450F and YZ250F 2016 covered with the famous yellow and black livery.

These versions available in "July / August" also receive an Akrapovic silencer, GYTR hand guards and the Yamaha Power Tune system on the 450.

As for the 2-stroke Yamaha, nothing more than a new decoration and black rims for 2016. It’s thin, but the Iwata crest has already concentrated a lot of efforts last year by completely rethinking its . Same approach in enduro, since the WR450F does not change one iota and the WR250F – reviewed in depth last year – also evolves only by small cosmetic touches (black rim, new graphics).

The YZF 2016 will be available in July / August in the, in "Racing Blue" only, at prices not yet communicated.
