For 2021 and the Euro5 standard, Yamaha is recasting its top model MT-07
A week after the new MT-09, Yamaha unveils the Euro 5 version of its MT-07. If the technical updates of the small "roadstar" in 2021 are more subtle than on the big sister, those concerning its cosmetics are also striking. Presentation.
Best selling motorcycle in France since its release in 2014 (!), The MT-07 was content in 2018 to evolve smoothly – and with happiness – to remain at the top of "its" category, yet one of the most popular on the European motorcycle market.
"With more than 125,000 units of MT-07 (Full Power and 35 kW) sold since its launch, it is one of Yamaha’s most popular motorcycles", proudly underlines the firm of Iwata whose reluctance to revolutionize its "roadstar"…

In 2021 however, the MT-07 is forced to change: to continue its magnificent career, it must comply with the stricter limits of pollutant emissions – both for our small lungs and for our dear eardrums – of the Euro5 standard..
To do this, Iwata’s engine makers redesigned the air intake ducts, optimized the injection settings, grafted a new ECU and fitted a new 2-into-1 exhaust. "These modifications provide a more linear response while by retaining the characteristic performance of this engine ", guarantees Yamaha on account … which increases by 200 euros (7299 euros therefore).
Other rare values that change on the 2021 technical and commercial sheet: the maximum power of the CP2 twin cylinder reaches 73.4 hp at 9000 rpm (Vs 74.8 hp for the Euro 4 version) and the maximum torque 67 Nm from 6500 rpm (Vs 68 Nm at the same speed previously). In exchange for the Euro5 mention, it’s worth it, no ?
Yamaha specifies having installed "a new electric bleed valve and a lightweight battery (which) ensure easy starting even when the machine has not been driven for an extended period". Good news for the coming winter? Or repeated confinements…
The chassis of the MT-07 is only moderately modified, at the level of the front axle: a pair of larger discs (298 mm instead of 282) must offer more power and request a little more the new rise of Michelin PR5 tires (120 / 70-17 and 180 / 55-17 always).
Likewise, the 2021 model receives "a new 32mm wider conical aluminum handlebar which offers a more assertive and enhanced riding position for more maneuverability at low speed", assure the Japanese, who are also proud of their "new black levers ( which) streamline the look, while the cockpit area wiring is compacted to improve the line ".
Above the handlebars, there is "a high-end color LCD dashboard" … of which only the red zone contrasts, however, with the "classic" white display on a black background of this screen simply snatched from the Tracer 700 renewed in 2019.
From an aesthetic point of view finally, the little Yam ‘adopts the "hyper, hyper naked" style of its sister, which "gives the 2021 MT-07 a more elegant and distinctive look, synonymous with quality, ensures Yamaha. More distinctive, there is no doubt about it for MNC….
Emblem of the cosmetic redesign of the top model Yamaha, a new very compact LED headlight consists of a central projector with lens and "translucent double-layer" position lights (which) give it a Y-shaped face (and) reaffirms its close family ties with the MT-09 ". Will customers appreciate it? Response next January, when the MT-07 2021 will arrive in dealerships…
