GP 500 cc 2-stroke motorcycle: rather YZR500 or Ronax ?

News - GP 500 cc 2-stroke motorcycle: rather YZR500 or Ronax? - Rossi's NSR500, German version and road

Swept by 4-stroke, the 2-stroke engine on road motorcycles is still popular with many bikers, marked by the exploits of Grand Prix riders such as Rainey or Rossi. Exactly, their motorcycles are for sale: get your checkbooks, get set, go !

Rossi’s NSR500, German version and road

Called Ronax 500, this machine is approved for the road! Inspired by the Honda that the young Valentino Rossi rode on the track towards his third world title – the last of the 2-stroke era of the Grand Prix! – this German motorcycle is powered by a V4, naturlich.

But the similarities with the Honda Grand Prix end there. The experts of the Intercontinental Circus remember for example that the mill of the NSR500 of the "Doctor" was open to 112 °, was satisfied with a single crankshaft, was force-fed by four 36 mm carburettors and started with the stroller..

However, apart from the race and bore dimensions (54.5 x 54 mm), the Ronax V4 at 80 °, its two counter-rotating crankshafts, its electronic injection, its dual sport / rain mapping and its electric starter have no much to do with the Honda. There remains the resounding sound (see the video on the last page, the volume at full blast!) Which has now completely deserted our roads.

Likewise, if in terms of power, the Ronax cannot logically compete with the Rossi wheel – which spit out 190 hp according to Site’s little finger – its designers announced a completely respectable maximum value: 160 hp, for an estimated dry weight of 145 kg. Enough to thrill the best Superbike on the market which produces 200 hp but weighs around 200 kg when fully loaded…

Like the crankcases, the 500’s chassis and swingarm are pure aluminum and the hardware to match, the German deserved nothing less than the best Brembo and Ohlins components available on the market.

The fairing entirely shaped in carbon which comes to cap the whole strictly follows the lines of the Japanese. At this level, copying can be considered as great art … But like any work of art, this motorcycle comes at a high price. !

The Ronax 500 is displayed on its official website at 100,000 € excluding tax, roughly the same price as Mister Rainey’s YZR500 once French VAT has been applied … Note that if you make up your mind early enough, you can choose your own serial number, between 1 … and 46 necessarily !
