Yamaha Tracer 700 model year 2020

Euro 5 sports tourer with round headlights

EICMA 2019

The 2020 Yamaha Tracer 700 is the first model to come with the Euro 5 compliant crossplane two-cylinder. Little changes in the performance data.

The crossplane two-cylinder rolls in the new one Yamaha Tracer 700 for the 2020 model year with modified exhaust gas settings and thus fulfills the new Euro 5 standard, which will apply to new motorcycles from January 1, 2020. This can be seen optically from the two manifold pipes, which now join much earlier on the way to the muffler. Looks clumsier than its predecessor, but has the advantage that the catalytic converter heats up faster because it is located closer to the outlet. And the earlier the catalytic converter is up to temperature, the cleaner the exhaust gas that comes out of the back. Not much changes in the performance data, except that the approximately 75 PS (55 kW) maximum output is now at 8,750 rpm (previously at 9,000 rpm).

The front is reminiscent of Tenere or R1 – depending on when you ask

Those who mourn the more delicate and curved manifold pipes of the previous Crossplan may be able to console themselves with the new face of the Yamaha Tracer 700, because it was considerably inspired by other Yamaha models. The new Tracer 700 looks much more airy around the front cladding and is reminiscent of the Tenere 700 – one asks the author. The two-part lamps integrated into the cladding remain, but contract to narrow slits that now only serve as the LED position lights accommodate. The two new, round LED headlights illuminate the road and dominate the new face of the Yamaha Tracer 700. Editor Tobias Beyl clearly sees the relationship to the current R1.

Yamaha

The relationship is unmistakable. The new Tracer is copying a lot from its colleagues for its facelift – round headlights and flat side panels, for example.

The angular cladding of the predecessor is giving way to more even plastic parts, which are based on the current Tenere 700 in terms of design and nestle seamlessly against the tank cover. The indicators are still located just below the hand protectors, but are now clearly narrower and longer, while the fastening screws of the hand protectors are no longer visible.

Color screen and modified ergonomics

Colorful: The new screen can do color. In addition, the height of the windshield can be adjusted by over 60 mm with one hand. Unfortunately, the seat height cannot be adjusted in height. And it also grows by half a centimeter from 835 mm to 840 mm. Yes, everything that has grown beyond 1.65 meters is now laughing. But the author speaks for all little motorcyclists when she says: Every millimeter counts! Well, maybe the Tracer 700 has gotten a bit narrower around the middle, so that the step length is smaller – we will test that during a seat trial at EICMA 2019.

The new display can be colorful. More impressive: the driver can adjust the screen height by more than 60 mm.

The rear part of the seat has also grown in the 2020 Yamaha Tracer 700, so the pillion should be able to take a more comfortable position. The new handlebars have also gained in size, increasing by 34 mm in width, which is why the overall width of the new Tracer has grown from 806 mm to 840 mm.

Yamaha Tracer 700 with adjustable suspension

While the predecessor still had to make do with an adjustable spring base at the rear, the new Yamaha Tracer 700 can also be adjusted at the front. The front suspension travel is still 130 mm, but preload and rebound are now adjustable. The rear suspension travel does not change at 142 mm either.

The new Yamaha Tracer 700 can now also be adjusted at the front in preload and rebound.
