MBK arrives in maxi scooters in 2012

Number three in the French 50 cc market, MBK rolls in the shadow of its predecessor Yamaha in the 125 cc sector. But never mind to change its image, the French brand is taking over the big leagues with the Skycruiser 250.
Among the strengths of MBK (originally Motobecane in 1923, read in particular our) is its network: "capillary and expert, it has 410 points of sale in France and allows us to be as close as possible to customers", explains Éric de Seynes, CEO of Yamaha Motor France.
Second asset of the brand renamed at the beginning of the year "MBK Industries" (read): its factory based in St-Quentin "which produces 125 cc scooters of course, but also 660 cc and outboard motors", and represents the only factory of the Yamaha group in Europe since the closure of the Italian (2010) and Spanish (2011) sites.
According to the French big boss, the "research and development office and the MBK factory are essential because they allow us to stay in touch with the trends of a mature market, which is therefore very demanding".
Thus in 2012 MBK will offer these "djeun’s" customers a new Booster Naked with 13-inch wheels: "as in the automobile, increasingly tall rims are popular at the moment", notes again Eric de Seynes.
In the radius of 125 cc this time, the MBK range will welcome from December a Skycruiser 125 "Sport Factory", also a product exclusive to the French brand, which follows the current trend: matt colors, small windshield and biton colors. the saddle and the backrest, for a price of 4599 euros.
From February 2012, another 125 will join the ranks of MBK: a large-wheeled scooter called Oceo, identical to the Xenter unveiled by Yamaha upstream of the Milan show (read).
Priced at € 2990, this new "Italian-style" scooter will also be offered in a version equipped with a top-case and a windshield in order to become a – real – alternative to the GT scooters preferred by French consumers.
A segment in which Yamaha is leading the way thanks to its famous Xmax, while MBK has to be content with much lower volumes, which are down even this year. "Our problem is not a bad image in the 125", retorts to Site the French staff, but quite simply "an absence of image" !
In order to remedy this, the Yamaha group has decided to market its Xmax … 250, the current best sale of maxiscooter in France after the Tmax – which, for its part, "will always remain a Yamaha", promises our interlocutor! Under the MBK banner, the "Skycruiser" 250 will therefore have the task of attracting a more mature clientele than that of the legendary Booster (1.5 million copies produced).
The "new" maxiscooter will land in the MBK dealerships from March, "at the same price as its cousin Yamaha", the manufacturer tells us, or 5099 euros.
Finally, MBK Industries is not satisfied with the "maxi" since it integrates in parallel in 2012 its first model of electric scooter: the EC-O3 (pronounced "eco three") launched by Yamaha this year under the same name (read in particular ).
"Small, compact, light, economical and guaranteed zero emissions, it will be an opportunity for our dealerships to open up to a whole new market and increase their income," says Éric de Seynes. The EC-03 will be available in April from MBK for 2499 euros, but it can be tested from now until December 4 at the Paris Motorcycle Show, Porte de Versailles !
"As you can see, MBK is more than ever present in the world of mobility, particularly urban mobility, and will continue to be the scooter expert at Yamaha," concludes the CEO of Yamaha Motor France, particularly confident in the future. of the French brand.
