At the Paris Motorcycle Show, the Bobster of the "bodybuilder-preparer" Mecatwin attracts a large number of visitors. This new preparation made by the craftsman of Montagis (45) from a Triumph Bonneville is as beautiful as it is thoughtful.

Beautiful and good at the same time !

"The Bobster is the answer we give to all those who want a refined motorcycle without having to sacrifice everything for it", describes Franck Depoisier, the manager of the famous preparation workshop (see box below).

At the origin of this project, the desire to develop a neoclassical motorcycle devoid of all the superfluous but which does not sacrifice the essential: the pleasure of riding.

Because what is the point of owning a superb motorcycle pampered down to the smallest detail if it is uncomfortable and less efficient than the original model? ?

If some are ready to agree to this kind of purely aesthetic compromise, this is not the case with the Mecatwin team for whom a motorcycle should not only be "cute to look at"..

Giving body to this new project through a Bonneville (what else?), This Triumph specialist has strived to fashion a stripped-down “Bobber” style motorcycle that does not sacrifice dynamism and comfort on the altar of look: the Bobster.

The rear buckle, in particular, has been shortened and accommodates a saddle shorter than the original, but without the transformation reaching extremes incompatible with the practice of the duo. Likewise, the rear light gives way to a small round model as cute as it is homologated, while the license plate holder allows the installation of a "street legal" model..

Technically, the "Bonnie" 865 cc twin camshaft twin engine gains 7 horsepower and 0.8 mkg of torque, or 75 hp and 7.6 mkg advertised. This increase is obtained thanks to "a new injection mapping" and "Dual System exhausts", reveals Franck Depoisier interviewed by Site.

The final reduction is also adjusted on demand, depending on the size of the wheels, which can also be personalized (120/90/17 and 140/80/17 on the model on display, against 110/70/17 and 130/80 / 17 originally).

In addition to the gain in pure performance, Mecatwin promises above all an additional character: a particularly welcome characteristic as the parallel twin from Hinckley, too "smooth" to be (badly) honest, is somewhat disappointing at this level in the original version..

A small limited series, treated as a manufacturer

In terms of the cycle part, the Bobster retains the tubular cradle frame and the original 41 mm Kayaba fork, but exhibits Mecatwin shock absorbers adjustable in preload and rebound. Different suspension solutions are offered "à la carte". Finally, the Nissin two-piston brakes at the front and rear are also renewed in their functions..

Mecatwin, "bodybuilder-preparer" since 1986

Created in 1986 by Franck Depoisier, Mecatwin describes himself as a "coachbuilder-preparer" mainly specialized in the realization of unique model based on Triumph, but also Harley-Davidson. In 1993, a year after the rebirth of Triumph, this French craftsman gained momentum and produced his first limited series of 50 copies, the X 90 roadster..

Renowned throughout the world for the reliability and quality of its achievements, Mecatwin works in a 2000 m² workshop located in Montargis (45). One of the mottos of this passionate trainer perfectly illustrates the degree of interest of a Mecatwin motorcycle: "The detail makes the difference".

"The idea is to keep as many expensive parts as possible which work very well on the original model in order to contain the price", explains the boss of Mecatwin..

"Because of course, we could install a Grand Prix fork or radial brakes, but what is the real interest in this type of motorcycles?", He wonders.

Regarding the price, Franck Depoisier considers that it "should be around 16,000 euros, while being scalable in addition to less, depending on the options, preparation requires ". Described as "a small limited series treated in a constructive way" by its designer, this Bobster will be available in three colors: gray, black and white mesh, ivory, black and red and blue mesh, black and ivory mesh.
