Moto Guzzi celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of its iconic V7 with several mechanical and technical modifications in line with Euro4 and an "Anniversario" version. In addition to this V7 III, the manufacturer of Mandello also presents at the Milan motorcycle show (Italy) its range of V9 with improved comfort. First news and live smart-video from EICMA.

The V7 range celebrates its 50th anniversary and opens its third chapter in 2017, just two years after its major overhaul. Pushed by Euro4 standards, Moto Guzzi takes the opportunity to dust off the 744 cc air-cooled V-twin by notably strengthening its pollution control system via a three-way catalyst and a double Lambda probe.

The twin also released other more profound modifications aimed at improving its performance while adhering to new requirements, such as its new pump and oil pan and its new crankshaft. Injection unibody Marelli responds to orders from an electronic accelerator, while the box remains in the six-speed format released in 2014. The dry single-disc clutch is also renewed.

In the end, the Italian engine manufacturers successfully complete this delicate transition – especially for an air engine – since performance climbs to 52 hp at 6200 rpm and 60 Nm at 4900 rpm, against 48 hp at 6250 rpm and 59 Nm at 3000 rpm on the V7 II. At the cycle part level, the front axle would have been "revised and reinforced", assures Moto Guzzi which also announces the arrival of new shock absorbers of "superior quality" whose angle of inclination "more important" would provide an answer "more progressive and controlled ". Not negligible considering the fairly dry damping of this retro with authentic flavors !

Passengers also benefit from better consideration thanks to the repositioning of their lower footrests. The rider benefits from a new saddle installed lower (770 mm) and forged aluminum footrests. As in 2016, the V7 III is available in three versions, the details of which are to be discovered below: the sober Stone, the classic Special and the sporty "Racer" and its half-handlebars..

Quite (too?) Modern under their classic appearance, the motorcycles have ABS as standard (compulsory in 2017), anti-slip (not very useful given the power …) and are always connectable to a smartphone via the "MG application. -MP ". This very "Geek" feature allows, among other things, to record the details of a trip thanks to the GPS integrated in the phone or to locate it easily by keeping in memory its geographical coordinates each time the engine is switched off: practical for heads-in -the air !

Each of the three versions of the V7 III benefit from a few cosmetic tweaks, such as a new fuel cap, a new seat, slimmed down side covers and 40mm widened turn signals and mirrors. For 2017, Moto Guzzi is also celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the range via a fourth version called "Anniversario" (anniversary), in a numbered edition of 750 copies..

The 2017 Moto Guzzi V7 III range

  • V7 III Stone: matt paint, spoke rims, single dial instrument panel, short front fender.
  • V7 III Special: color strip under the saddle, chrome accents, spoked wheels, dual dial dashboard, padded saddle, fork tube protection (bellows on Racer and Stone).
  • V7 III Racer: half-handlebars, seat backrest, number holder, wire wheels, adjustable footrest plates cut in the mass. Fully adjustable Ôhlins shocks.
  • V7 III Anniversario: 750 copies in black or blue, from a Special. Chrome finishes and gold-colored eagle on the tank, leather saddle, aluminum fuel tank cap cut in the mass, number laser engraved on the upper crown, brushed aluminum mudguard, polished rims with gray hubs.

The 2017 Moto Guzzi V9 improves its comfort

Close to the V7 from a technical and stylistic point of view, the V9 has since last year brought an increase in performance in the range thanks to its larger displacement of 850 cc instead of 744 on the V7 (read in particular our) . Available in two versions, Roamer and Bobber, this air-cooled motorcycle undergoes some modifications for 2017, mainly ergonomic.

The r, custom of classic look, would provide a better reception thanks to a new saddle – "longer and more comfortable" – and footrests set back by 100 mm. Hopefully this is enough to prevent the knees from coming into contact with the cylinders, as was the case in. Aware of this almost crippling ergonomic problem, Moto Guzzi also offers current owners and future buyers of the first generation of V9s to take advantage of the benefits of these new turntables, obviously optional..

The new reworked comfort saddle is also part of the optional equipment available on the 2016 V9. On the other hand, the chassis does not change for 2017, including the suspensions: too bad, as the rear units of the V9 Roamer show themselves disappointing, both in terms of comfort and rigor. The Moto Guzzi had particularly suffered at this level against the balanced – and much better finished – Triumph Street Twin during our .

The V9 Bobber, a version with a style driven by the use of a front wheel wider than the rear or even a "drag bar" handlebars, also receives new plates with rear footrests, as well as a new saddle advertised as "more comfortable". On one as on the other, the cardan transmission engine does not evolve for 2017 since it was already Euro4 approved when it was released. It retains its power of 55 hp and torque of 62 Nm, little more than the V7 III. The V9 renews its ABS and its adjustable traction control, device not really necessary with regard to the power and which showed itself rather dry when it was actuated on the first version..
