Motorcycle news 2016: Triumph’s greatest classics
As expected, Triumph has just released the first info, photos and video of its 2016 Modern Classic range. Five new motorcycles are presented: two Bonneville T120s and two Thruxton 1200 cc as well as a Street Twin 900 cc. To us the fat English !
Street Twin: the basis of the future Scrambler !
"Last but not least", the Street Twin is according to Triumph "the most contemporary, the most fun and the most accessible of our new Bonneville. With its uniqueness, striking engine, signature sound, clean look and dynamic ride, the Street Twin is the ideal Bonneville for the modern rider.".
Inspired by the Ducati Scrambler "new wave of the custom scene", the youngest of the Modern Classic range must"propel the Bonneville pedigree into the 21st century without losing any of its iconic character". Devil, not easy !
For this, the Hinckley firm has completely redesigned the "small" parallel twin. He would now deliver "impressive torque of 80 Nm at just 3,200 rpm – 18% more torque than the predecessor throughout the rev range", have calculated for us the British.
Like the "Twelve-Cents", this "Nine-Cents" is water-cooled, but its thin, black radiator doesn’t stain too much. There is also the ride-by-wire and the now essential traction controls, anti-slip clutch and ABS system. On the other hand, no Rain or Sport driving mode.
The Street Twin’s unique speedometer and digital menu are controlled directly from the handlebars. Extremely complete as standard, they can optionally integrate the tire pressure monitoring system and heated grips.
Sleek, the style of the small Triumph is no less polished, as demonstrated by the brushed stainless steel mufflers, the cutout of the single front disc, the dark indicators, the perforated trim of the injection and the inscriptions on the small fairing sidewalls.
A small 900 with all the sauces
The two colors "Cranberry Red" and "Aluminum Silver" also benefit from edging on the tank and on the alloy rims 10 sticks (the blacks "Matt", "Jet" and "Phantom" are blank). How much will they be billed? No one knows yet, but Site will naturally try to get to the bottom of it at the Milan show. !
Like the 2016 Bonneville T120s and Thruxtons, the Street Twin will be largely customizable. Triumph has already dug into its extensive catalog to create three kits: the more urban "Brat Tracker", the more casual sporty "Urban" (!) And the … "Scrambler".
Although the old generation of Scrambler is currently listed in the online Triumph catalog (read our), the English were keen to offer an off-road and turnkey version of their Street Twin.
"We find a high-end Vance & Hines brushed exhaust system (off-road use only), a fender removal kit with compact taillight, a brown ribbed cafe racer seat, brown "balloon" grips, Compact LED flashing lights and brushed aluminum engine guard", details the manufacturer.
To complete the range, all that is missing is a pair of tires that are more adventurous than the new original footwear for the entire Triumph Modern Classic 2016 range … This final point will be negotiated with your dealer !
