New 2012 Honda series salvo in Milan

News - New 2012 Honda new salvo in Milan - NC700X: the crossover suspected

Four novelties that complete the Honda 2012 vintage will be exhibited tomorrow at the EICMA in Milan. As expected, two models take the twin 700 from the Integra (NC700S and NC700X). The Crosstourer and a new Wave are also detailed. Presentation.

NC700X: the suspected crossover

Site was not mistaken – by a lot – by whispering the arrival of a 700 cc trail, since Honda unveils in Milan the little brother of: the NC700X !

Availability, colors and prices

  • Availability: December 2011

  • 2 versions (to be confirmed): ABS and ABS + DCT

  • Colors: Metallic black "Darkness", White "Pearl Sunbeam" or Metallic silver "Digital"

  • Price: around € 7,000

Technically, this bike is a cut-and-paste of the NC700S and only the travel and ground clearance values vary from that of the roadster (see table below). "The NC700X delivers the long travel, agility and dominant riding position of a trail", says Honda.

Equipped as standard with the combined ABS braking system and fitted with a skin very similar to the Crossrunner, the mini Crossover – Honda, not Behem! – weighs 7 kg more than the naked version, or 218 kg fully loaded. It’s heavy, of course, but less than the Integra (238 kg).

The NC700X will have the 21.8 hp version of the parallel twin, but will also be available with the 47.6 hp (or 35 kW) version corresponding to the A2 license of the European regulations applicable in 2013.

Besides this version for beginners, Honda announces – without much surprise – that its urban trail can be equipped with the "second generation" DCT. After all, there is no reason that backpackers should not benefit, like dynamic executives (for the Integra) and bikers in the making (or on the return, with the NC700S), from this transmission. !

Of course, the NC700X also has the "internal storage compartment – located in the usual location of the tank – (which) largely accommodates an integral, rain gear or a bag", says Honda.

"The upright driving position, typical of all terrain, offers a higher point of view that allows you to better anticipate possible obstacles", estimate the Japanese engineers. Would the NC700X be better equipped than its sisters to drive in the city? ?

"Combined with the machine’s low center of gravity and generous steering angle (35 °, like the other two 700, Editor’s note), this characteristic gives it remarkable agility and maneuverability at low speed. In heavy traffic as on winding roads, the NC700X is a reassuring ally, concludes the winged mark.

Another advantage of the X over the S: "thanks to its well-designed fairing, it is equally comfortable at cruising speed, the windshield and trim deflecting the wind around the driver to limit fatigue", promise the Japanese.

Site will wait until it has completed more than a hundred kilometers on board before deciding … This test will take place on the road – or even on the motorway – rather than on highways, since the NC700X puts on the same tires as its sisters: Bridgestone BT-023 120/70 front and 160/60 rear.

Like the NC700S and the Integra, the NC700X will be accompanied by a host of accessories, but it is on this precise model that the transformation is most impressive: equipped with "the bubble to the shoe", the one that passed for a basic Crossrunner looks like a real Crosstourer.

Of course, the famous Crosstourer, the VFR1200 V4 maxitrail confirmed three weeks ago by Honda (read) and whose website presentation and manufacturer’s technical sheet can be found on the following pages !
