New 2015 EICMA: Kawasaki presents its Ninja H2
By removing its ‘R’ suffix, the Ninja H2 loses no less than 100 horsepower but gains access to open roads! Kawasaki’s new sports car presented in Milan, also very close to the H2R unveiled in Cologne, does not lack air.
Kawasaki presents its Ninja H2 without ” R ”
One month after unveiling the at the Intermot show in Cologne, Kawasaki presented yesterday at the Eicma show in Milan the Ninja H2 "short". At the same time, the brand is launching a website dedicated to these two exclusive machines..
Among the key information provided by Japanese engineers about their next road missile (- air?!), We retain a priority: 200 horsepower, the maximum power of the majority of current Superbikes.
As a reminder, the latest generation of BMW S1000RR officially develops 199 hp, the all-new R1 200, the new RSV4 201 and the big Panigale 205. By "restraining" its H2 to 200 hp, Kawasaki may be respecting a "Gentleman agreement" , of the same type as that which limits the maximum speed of motorcycles to 299 km / h ?
"With a power of 200 horsepower for the Ninja H2 and 310 horsepower for the Ninja H2R (with Ram-Air, 300 ch static, Editor’s note), each machine is able to outperform all its competitors both on the road and on the circuit", nevertheless assure the Greens.
"What sets them apart is the phenomenal torque that can be achieved with the compressor", continues the manufacturer. Certainly, with its 133.5 Nm, the Kawasaki effectively beats the naturally aspirated 4-cylinders of the competition (112.4 Nm for the Yamaha, 113 for the BMW, 115 for the Aprilia).
But the Ducati Superquadro holds it high with its maximum torque of 144.6 Nm! Anyway, it will be interesting to study all the power and torque curves … and especially captivating to test "for real" the H2 and its little comrades !
Ninja H2: 200 hp and 133.5 Nm for 238 kg
The Ninja H2, however, could have done better in terms of maximum torque: after all, the H2R from which it is derived comes out 165 Nm. Likewise, the H2 could have accommodated many more horsepower in its box, that of the H2R housing 100 more – unheard of on a production motorcycle that is however forbidden to drive on open roads.
To get it out of the circuit, Kawasaki had to modify other points on its H2: an LED light is hidden between the two gaping air intakes, mirrors replace the fins of the "R" and a license plate holder is attached to the impressive back loop.
In addition to its indecent power, the Ninja H2 also had to reduce its formidable sound flow (120 dB in track version!) And its polluting emissions. The respect of the noise and antipollution standards were respected in particular thanks to the voluminous muffler inspired by those which equip the. The beautiful rear rim is unfortunately overshadowed, and the overall look of the new Ninja is weighed down..
The weight of the beast, precisely, is mentioned only once in the documents provided to the press by Kawasaki or on its site: in the technical sheet! Estimated at 238 kg all full facts, this value is not among the strengths of the H2.
By way of comparison – a bit mischievous, yes, but "whoever likes chastise well" – the all new and revolutionary Ninja H2 weighs only a kilogram less than …! We especially note that it is heavier than the other 1000 cc on the market: the, for example, weighs only 201 kg (including ABS).
The explanation for this overweight does not lie in the mere presence of the compressor. By searching the rich website that Kawasaki has dedicated to its Ninja H2 and H2R (), Site was able to find other answers…
"In order to accommodate the pressure generated by the compressor and ensure the high reliability of the H2R developing 300 hp, the entire engine has been designed in order to withstand stresses 1.5 to 2 times greater than the one liter atmospheric engines", calculated the Greens.
Stronger therefore, the 998 cc "supercharged" from Kawasaki is undoubtedly heavier than those found at the heart of current hypersport cars, all comprising parts made of materials each more noble than the other (magnesium, titanium, etc.)
By the way, Akashi engineers tell us that "Apart from its camshafts, cylinder head gasket and clutch, the engine of the H2 is exactly the same as that designed for the H2R Ninja".
The chassis of the Ninja H2 is also extremely close to that of the H2R. By examining the figures given by the manufacturer, MNC finds only three changes: the more closed socket angle of the "road" than on the "pistarde" (24.5 ° against 25.1 °), the shorter socket by 5 mm (103 against 108) … but the wheelbase is increased by 5 mm (1455 against 1450!).
The 43mm split-function "KYB AOS-II" Air-oil inverted fork featured on the H2R is retained, but Kawasaki does not specify whether the damper is the same. Finally the chassis – including "some welds are done by hand", underlines Kawasaki – is common to both motorcycles.
"Using a tubular mesh was an elegant and lightweight solution to achieve the expected level of performance", say the Japanese."Capable of handling the enormous power of the motor, its balance between rigidity and flexibility guarantees it very high stability and perfect management of disturbances at ultra-high speed"…
Sayonara ZZR1400 ?
In addition, "its open design also effectively dissipates the heat generated by the supercharged engine". Still, compared to a double beam aluminum Superbike frame (200 hp and not 300!) And their swingarm, the chassis of the Ninja H2 is not the" weight "either..
But Kawasaki recalls that his motorcycle "was not designed with the aim of completing the circuit as quickly as possible"…
Another consequence, quite happy this time: "the spartan reception of supersport models is irrelevant". So according to Kawa, his machine not-like-the-others"allows the pilot to enjoy his performance in a minimum of comfort".
"While the driving position, ergonomics and cockpit layout have above all been designed to put the pilot in the best position to control this incredible machine, they do not inspire austerity but rather quality, control. high-tech and impeccable finish", ignite the Greens.
Loaded with electronics (KTRC traction control and Kawasaki KIBS sports ABS), the Ninja H2 also innovates by incorporating an engine brake management system (KEBC), a shifter, a "Launch Control" (KLCM): firsts for Kawasaki, just like the single-sided.
By equipping his Ninja H2 with an electronic assistant at the start, the Akashi firm makes us understand that his new bike has the firm intention of becoming the new benchmark in terms of acceleration. A title she attributed to the during her own launch…
Already developing 200 horsepower and no less than 162.5 Nm of torque – almost as much as the H2R! -, the big ZZR quickly reached 299.9 km / h despite its 268 kg all full. Will the new H2 do much better? Site asks only to verify it !
On the financial level, however, the ZZR1400 has already won since it is currently displayed at € 15,799 among. A price with which the Ninja H2 cannot compete: the "Next Ninja" will cost € 25,000 when it arrives in French dealerships in January 2016 (two thousand and sixteen!).
"For the production of these two exceptional machines (Ninja H2 and H2R, Editor’s note), a specific area in the famous Akashi factory in Japan has been entirely allocated to them", describes Kawasaki:"each machine is assembled by hand by one and the same person, which allows for high-level quality control"… and induces a proportional price !
