The 2014 Indian engine

Called "Thunder Stroke 111", this engine designed in two years skilfully blends tradition and modernity: its generous shapes, ribbed cylinder heads and magnificent chrome fins first of all pay a superb visual tribute to the long history of the oldest motorcycle manufacturer. from the USA (1901).

Unsurprisingly, cooling is provided by air and distribution is by rocker arms, two inseparable characteristics of in-house atavism.

Open at 49 °, this v-twin releases a new forged crankshaft and transmits its 159 Nm of torque to the rear wheel via a six-speed gearbox..

With its ribs of 101 mm bore and 113 mm of stroke, it totals a whopping 1,810.7 cc, which places it at the top of American production in terms of volume reached by a V-twin. Even the Harley-Davidson Twin Cam 110 has to bow with its 1802 cc! Let it be said: Indian is replacing itself with authority in its segment, well helped by the financial resources of the Polaris group.

“Phew!” Sigh fans of the brand, many of whom feared that it would lead him above all to the loss of the identity of the first. Polaris is building its own brand of customs, Victory, and could have chosen to share certain components – such as the engine – between its two brands to achieve economies of scale..

Indian is keeping its other characteristics secret for the moment, but its leaders have already indicated that the Thunder Stroke 111 will be fitted to the 2014 models..

As a reminder, the current Indian range is structured around five variations of the Chief: the Chief Vintage FE, the Chief Vintage LE, the Chief Vintage, the Chief Dark Horse and the Chief Classic.

Five motorcycles entirely built in Spirit Lake in Iowa (USA), whose prices range between $ 26,500 and $ 37,600: this is also the price of the exception !
