MNC thought to discover at the Intermot motorcycle show in Cologne the: lost, it will be for the Milan EICMA at the beginning of November! Instead, Behème offers the R1200RS at home, an attractive sporty-road version designed from the new R1200R (read our).
The return of "Reise Sport" at BMW
The "RS" series at BMW is a long love affair that began in 1976 with the R100 RS (for Reise Sport, or "Voyage Sport"), the first large series motorcycle "to be fitted with a solidarity fairing. of the frame developed in an aerodynamic wind tunnel ", proudly remind the Germans.
R1200RS 2015: the key points |
|
40 years later, the propeller manufacturer reaffirms with its new R1200RS its affection for this type of motorcycle aimed at offering a subtle compromise between dynamism and comfort, such as the Honda VFR800 V-Tec, the Kawasaki Z1000SX and CBF1000F .
This unexpected novelty is directly derived from the, unveiled at the opening of the Cologne show. The "R12RS" therefore receives the partially water-cooled Boxer twin-cylinder common to the R1200GS and R1200RT, a 1170cc engine developing 125 hp and 125 Nm of torque..
As on the new R1200R, the sport-GT would benefit from a small increase in low-end torque compared to the GS and RT thanks to the pentagonal airbox and muffler specially redesigned for the 2015 “R12R”. even, the german engine manufacturers have revised the cooling system, now articulated around a radiator in a central position to contain the width of the motorcycle.
The chassis is naturally modeled on that of the, itself equipped with a tubular steel perimeter-type chassis derived from the latest R1200GS and R1200RT developments. Like the roadster, the new sportivo-GT skips the Telelever type front axle and instead exhibits a "classic" 45mm inverted fork described as "inspired" by that of the S1000RR.
At the rear, the Paralever Evo single-sided arm incorporates the final transmission by cardan shaft, responsible for transmitting the ardor of the Boxer to the rear rim with ten sticks 180 mm wide.
The braking system is identical to that of the R1200R roadster: Brembo 4-piston radial calipers and 320 mm discs at the front, single two-piston caliper at the rear.
Everything is managed by a disconnectable ABS, whose action is combined from front to rear..
Another look – asymmetrical! – on the Sport-GT
Concretely, apart from certain different geometric values such as the wheelbase lengthened by 15 mm on the RS (1530 against 1515 mm on the R), the two new R1200s are technically very similar. The main difference is the grafting of a semi-fairing with angular lines on the "Reise Sport".
Carefully designed – as evidenced by the impeccable fit of each element validated by MNC on site – this fairing incorporates two light units with identical shapes, slightly almond shaped. Inside, however, BMW has taken care to install headlights of a different format in order to create this asymmetrical look specific to the production of Munich..
As an option, the black plastic cover covering the fork crown can receive LED daytime running lights installed in a vertical position between the headlights. Also optional LED night lights can be adopted.
This fork crown is surmounted by a windshield manually adjustable in two positions, by pulling it up or pushing it down. One-handed handling is fairly easy, although it does not match the childish simplicity and practicality offered by the ingenious adjustment wheel adopted on the new R1200GS..
Due to the integration of this semi-fairing, the R1200RS is slightly heavier than the "R", with 236 kg with 90% of the full advertised against 231 for the roadster. The weight distribution changes accordingly, with a weight distributed at 51% on the front and 49% on the rear on the RS while the R1200R displays a very balanced 50/50.
The ergonomics also differ between the two "sisters", in particular at the level of the position of the upper body. To reinforce its sporty side, the R1200RS inherits a very beautiful handlebar with a much more closed handlebar than that of the R1200R. The position is nevertheless less brittle for the wrists than on a "pure" sport, because this handlebar is fixed on bridges fixed on the upper triple clamp..
On the other hand, if the design of the rider seat and the position of the footrests seem strictly similar between the R1200R and the R1200RS, the duo will be more pleasant on the "RS", equipped with a significantly thicker passenger seat..
As on the roadster, the road-sport is equipped as standard with ASC traction control, two different injection maps (Rain and Road) and a new TFT instrumentation, the presentation of which can be varied. information.
€ 14,000, available in February 2015
As options, the R1200RS can be fitted with two additional driving modes (Dynamic and User) and the more sophisticated anti-slip – with inclinometers – DTC. ESA Dynamic suspensions – capable of electronically adjusting their behavior in real time – and the Pro shifter, a system that allows up and down gears without disengaging, also appear in the options catalog.
So many "technological" elements for which the optional aspect is not really surprising. Unlike some practical equipment that we would appreciate to find in series on a motorcycle of this category, such as the luggage rack, the heated grips, the regulator, the central stand or the luggage (top case and suitcases) …
A fortiori on a Sport-GT evolving in this price range: interviewed on the BMW stand at Intermot, Marcel Driessen, CEO of the French subsidiary, revealed to us that the R1200RS would be available "in February 2015" at the price of " € 14,000 ". Or 600 € more than the R1200R.
This 2015 novelty is available in two style variants: "Base" (blue and light gray paint, mat gray plastic tank cover, black frame, black anodized front brake calipers) and "Style 2" (mat gray and black paint, gray frame, gold anodized brake calipers, stainless steel tank cover and optional engine guard in the colors of the fairings).
