updates again its medium displacement trails F700 GS and F800 GS, both powered by the parallel twin-cylinder Rotax 798cc: for 2016, their small evolutions concern mainly cosmetics and saddle height, now available in four variants – or even five by adding the optional lowering.

Revised presentation details

Launched in, the BMW mid-capacity trails – at the time called F650 GS and F800 GS, despite an identical cylinder capacity – had their first real redesign in summer 2012 (read our and our).

Most of the work was then concentrated on the most accessible model (+ 4 hp, second front disc, shortened transmission gear), with the passage renamed F700 GS for better readability.

The ESA anti-slip and configurable suspension then appear in the options available on these two chain final drive motorcycles, fitted with ABS as standard and whose tank is placed under the saddle, as on the F800S roadster with which they share the engine.

For 2016, the changes made are much more modest but still interesting: the (fake) tank has been redesigned, the logo has been restyled, the colors have changed and more or less equipped versions appear (see the list below).

Engine performance does not change (75 hp and 77 Nm of torque on the F700 GS, 85 hp and 83 Nm on the F800 GS), as does the cycle part articulated around a tubular steel frame, a fork telescopic and adjustable shock absorber.

But above all, the two-tone saddles are revised for the benefit of comfort and their height can now vary on four levels, offering a range going from 765 to 860 mm on the F700 GS and from 820 to 920 mm on the F800 GS. The lowering kit (hollowed-out saddle and shortened suspension travel) to order at purchase offers a fifth possibility – paying this time – for bikers with legs still too short. Remember, however, that this modification logically leads to a decrease in dynamic qualities and comfort..
