Ducati has as expected lifted the veil on its new Monster 1200R, a "bodybuilt" version of the Mostro 1200 launched last year. Ducati has lifted the veil on its new Monster 1200R, a "bodybuilt" version of the Mostro 1200. Described as the "most powerful ever produced by Ducati", this sulphurous roadster develops 15 horsepower more than the Monster 1200S, for a total of 160 hp as had it. .

160 hp and 131.4 Nm

The engine base of the Monster 1200R is identical to the: it is the water-cooled twin cylinder of 1,198.4 cc, the power of which is increased from 145 hp on the current S version to 160 hp, or 5 more than the Bologna’s most powerful roadster so far: feu la. The block benefits from many improvements relating in particular to the admission, cylinder heads and injection. Its compression ratio goes to a 13: 1, against 12.5: 1 on the standard.

Thanks to these modifications, the torque now reaches 130.5 Nm at 7750 rpm, of which "75% would be available before 3500 rpm"! What places this Monster "R" among the most torquey of the current Ducati range: only the new one and the bestial do better with respectively 136 Nm and 144.6 Nm.

As is customary with the "R" Ducati versions, this radical roadster is dressed in carbon here and there and is equipped with the best peripherals: Marchesini forged rims shod with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP (in 200 mm at the rear, against 190 on the), 48 mm inverted fork, Ohlins mono-shock and steering damper fully adjustable.

Braking is matched with a device modeled on the Panigale: the enormous 330 mm (!) Wafers at the front are pinched by Brembo M50 monobloc four-piston radial calipers, actuated of course by braided hoses.

Standard Mostro is retained but the trail decreases by 4.2 mm (89 mm) and the wheelbase loses 2 mm (1509 mm). The saddle – not adjustable – takes height with 830 mm announced, against 810 in high position and 785 in low position on the "basic" Monster 1200.

The announced weight is slightly lower compared to the basic version, despite a tank with the same capacity (17.5 liters): 207 all full compared to 209 on the standard model. This gain of 2 kg is explained by the presence of carbon, the redesigned more compact rear shell, the new silencer and forged rims..

At the electronic level, the Monster 1200R carries a very complete "package" made up of a Bosch 9M ABS and a configurable and disconnectable anti-skating and three driving modes. The acceleration is managed by a ride-by-wire and the instrumentation displays its multiple information on a TFT matrix screen, as on the most recent mobile phones..

Early 2016 for more than € 17,000

Maintenance is scheduled every 15,000 km, with valve clearances every 30,000 km. Questioned by MNC, Ducati France is currently unable to provide us with the price of this sulphurous Monster 1200R, which is available in red or black..

Insofar as the standard version is currently priced at € 13,490 and the S at € 16,250, according to our estimates, its price will exceed € 17,000, or even flirt with € 18,000. Ducati plans one for the "start of 2016".

This deadline will undoubtedly appear a bit distant – even frustrating – for some French bikers because this new Monster 1200R being approved Euro 4, it could already circulate in France in Full Power as is already done by the !
