Only 159 hp in the approved road version…
Like the current MotoGP ridden by Marquez or Pedrosa, the RC213V-S (S for Street) is designed around a 999 cc V-4-cylinder. On the other hand, while the Grand Prix motorcycles exceed 260 hp, its road "equivalent" is content with a disappointing 159 hp at 11,000 rpm (102 in France).
That’s barely more power than a Suzuki GSX-R750 and 40 horsepower less than the best Hypersport bikes today.
A "track" kit will be offered as an option at 13,000 € with a substantial gain in power: Honda announces 215 hp on this version only intended for use on the circuit.
This value is already much more satisfactory for lovers of racy machines, but the approach may seem contradictory for a motorcycle advertised as the real MotoGP road….
This new Honda Replica (the winged blazon had already followed the same approach in 1992 with the NR750 and its oval pistons) makes up for it by its riquiqui weight: 170 dry in road version, 160 kg dry equipped with the racing kit (with rims in magnesium), only 2 kg more than Marquez’s RCV !
… but the best power-to-weight ratio in the Sport version !
It is up to 20 kilos less than a current production sports motorcycle: 179 kg dry for the! The weight / power ratio simply becomes the best of all current production: sacred performance! Regarding the technology of the beast, on the other hand, Honda has not shown an overflowing daring: no pneumatic distribution or ultra-fast seamless gearbox like on the real RC213V Factory from Marquez, Pedrosa, Crutchlow and Redding.
This is probably explained by the very high development and maintenance costs associated with these technologies. In addition, a pneumatic distribution needs to be regularly recharged with compressed air, which is not easy on a work-sleep trip! Finally, a last word on the design, a little dated with a fairly long overall silhouette that rather evokes the old NSR 500 2-stroke than the current racy RCV 4-stroke…
To believe that its design dates back to the beginning of the 2000s, just before Ducati made the nick to everyone on MotoGP Replicas with its fabulous in 2006. Note that at the time, the MotoGP road in Bologna was developing already more than 200 hp for a dry weight of 171 kg at a price of € 55,000.
This Honda RC213V-S is announced at the crazy price of 188,000 €, to which must be added the 13,000 € of the Track kit and the 4,000 € of the traditional white-blue-red HRC color! It will be made individually in Japan and available in very small quantities (around 200 copies). For a bit, the radical (202.5 hp for 155 kg dry) at € 65,000 would seem almost cheap !
