The Californian electric motorcycle manufacturer Zero brings a new naked bike. With the Zero SR / F you are virtually reinventing yourself.

The previous Zero models came from a large kit and you could see the modular solution in many points. With the new Zero SR / F should change everything and the new naked bike was designed from scratch. Zero himself wants the abbreviation SR / F to be understood as a pseudonym for Streetfighter.

Modern, tasty look

The first visual impression already confirms the change. The Zero SR / F looks like a naked bike with a modern design – pleasant, pretty and not like a typical electric motorcycle.

The new Zero comes as a naked bike.

The foundation stone for this is laid by the new steel tubular space frame, which replaces the old aluminum bridge frame. The rear wheel is guided by a steel swing arm in the shape of a banana and is supported directly on the frame by an inclined Showa shock absorber. At the front, the cast wheel is guided by a 43 mm Showa Big Piston USD fork. The radially hinged brake calipers of the 320 double disc system come from J. Juan. A 240 mm disc with a single-piston caliper delays the rear. Pirelli (Diablo Rosso III) supplies the tires in the dimensions 120/70 – 17 and 180 / 55-17. A modern clear glass headlight with LED technology sits in front of the digital cockpit display.

The dummy tank houses a large storage compartment and two USB ports. In addition, the Type 2 charging connection is housed here under a second cover. The slightly stepped bench integrates the passenger grab bar and the rear light. The license plate moves to a boom on the swing arm. There are three seat heights to choose from for the bench, the lowest being 770 mm.

E-motor has an output of 110 hp

We come to the electric drive. The new ZF75-10 electric motor sits coaxially on the front swing arm axle and drives the rear wheel via a carbon fiber reinforced toothed belt.

Zero Motorcycles

The new motor has an output of 80 kW and 190 Nm.

Drive influences on the chassis should therefore be almost impossible. The specified power is 80 kW or 110 PS. The maximum torque is 190 Nm, which, as is usual with an electric motor, is available from the starting speed. The maximum speed is 200 km / h.

The 14.4 kWh lithium-ion battery is located in the center of the tubular space frame in front of the engine. It should offer a range of up to 175 kilometers. A power tank should also be available from autumn 2019, which should increase the range to up to 320 kilometers. The Zero can be recharged using a fast charger – here it can be scaled from three to twelve kW in 3 kW steps – to a 95% level in the best case in just under an hour, says Zero. With the basic charger, electricity can be recharged for a range of around 60 kilometers in one hour.

By the way: the motor and battery are completely air-cooled and only via the airstream, without additional fans.

SR / F can be fully networked

The electronics of the Zero SR / F are also contemporary. A six-axis control unit from Bosch serves as the basis for ABS with cornering function, traction control, drag torque control as well as four fixed and ten freely programmable driving modes.

The zero operating system also allows extensive networking with the smartphone. Numerous vehicle functions can be monitored via the app, but also numerous driving dynamics values ​​(distance, speed, lean angle, etc.) can be recorded, evaluated and shared. Conversely, the on-board electronics can also be supplied with updates in this way.

In the USA, the new Zero SR / F will be available in two colors (red and blue) from spring. The base price for the SR / F with a 3 kW onboard charger is just under 19,000 dollars (the equivalent of 16,750 euros and excluding taxes). The version with 6 kW charger, heated grips, flyscreen and aluminum handlebars should be available from just under 21,000 dollars (the equivalent of 18,500 euros and without taxes). As prices for Germany, Zero names 20,490 euros for the basic model and 22,690 euros for the 6 kW version.
