It ignites, it sparks, it explodes – that’s the NitrOlympX 2018, which took place from August 17th to 19th at the Hockenheimring. We have captured the most beautiful moments from motorbikes, cars and buses (yes!) As well as from the night show for you.

40,000 visitors found their way to the Hockenheim Motodrom for this burning spectacle. The NitrOlympX are the biggest drag racing – outside of the US, of course. Dress code, fire, flame and earmuffs. Because it’s not only hot here, but also very loud.

And who is up against whom? “To ensure that the different engines and vehicle types remain equal, each vehicle is classified according to the ratio of cubic capacity, weight and charge. An index is assigned to the class determined from this. In the race, the handicap start with a time advantage is given for the slower index ”, so the information on the event page.
Motorcycles with 1,500 HP
And there are many classes – 18 in number: the FIA Pro Modified with 3,000 PS, for example, or the FIA Top Methanol Dragster with even 5,000 PS! Junior Dragster, Super Gas and Funny Bike are other racing series that started as part of the NitrOlympX. The upper end of the scale, however, are the FIA Top Fuel Dragsters: These are vehicles with 10,000 hp V8 engines and 509 km / h top speed, which they can reach in 3.939 seconds.
The motorcycles are available in 400 HP, 600 HP, 1,100 HP and 1,500 HP, while the performance of the Funny Bikes and the FIM E Junior Drag Bike Cup is variable. The latter discipline will be starting its own championship under FIM regulations for the first time in 2018. “The cup is open to young people from 8 to 16 years of age and is held in three classes. The index for the eighth mile is between 11.9 and 6.9 seconds. If a driver falls short of his class index by more than 0.5 seconds or exceeds 160 km / h, he will be disqualified for this event. With a free choice of cylinders, the displacement is set between 125ccm and 900ccm depending on the age group. Both series frames and in-house constructions may be used. “
